At the end of the day group b strep should be tested routienly like america for the woman in the uk... esp since its referred to as the biggest killer bug of new births in the uk. the importance of it is unreal... the only thing is some of those 20-25% of women that are a carrier not all test positivly when in fact they are, that this is what causes the debate from the nhs. To recap any woman who tests positive anytime in her life of gbs should be offereed antibitoics at time of labour - the rates of gbs being passed onto new born babies in america have been reduced by 80%, that is huge and should give the uk a wake up call!!
Scares me the amount of women over here who do not even know what gbs is and the complications it could cause if not treated, even the knowledge of some of the docotrs and midwifes who are not up to scratch with it too - the amount of ladies who have even been given a sweep when being diagnosed with gbs is absured!!
I really hope those who cant get tested on the nhs get it done privately for £30.
