My sister has mentioned this bacteria which a third of people carry.

Has anyone been tested or treated for it?

Just wondered what your thoughts were. My sister says her midwife rolled her eyes when she mentioned it to her and said it had been blown out of proportion in the press.

i'm sure this was jst on this morning!? if so then apparantly they don't test on the Nhsand if they do test it's only 50% accurate! it's abot £35 private 4 the test.

It was! Shes a stay to home Mum at the moment and just rang me about it!

the test is to be done at the 30 week stage so we have plenty of time yet!! £35 seems quite reasonable though so might do it myself! If ur a carrier antibiotics through the labour should prevent babe getting it! x

I did the test in my last pregnancy cos there was a lot of hype about it then. I think it´s best to get it done. You have to send off for the tests (can´t remember where from, got the number off This morning website, I think a rivate lab in London). They send you some swabs and you do them yourself (up the bum) and send it back, you get results about 2 wks later. You have to do it between 35 - 37 weeks (I think), or 32 - 35 (not sure which) so you should order them in advance.

I had tested positive for it 17 years ago with my daughter. They just treated it through IV antibiotics. I was 19 years old and really didn't know much about it and as long as the doctor treated it, I didn't feel like it is a big deal. I will look more into it now that i am a bit older and want to know EVERYTHING!
Good luck ladies! Today at 4 is my scan!!!!!!!!!! :happydance:

I think £35 is nothing compared to how bad you'd feel if you had it and didn't test. At least you know either way. I'm getting it done in a few weeks time.

Everyone should get it done, it can kill a healthy baby if passed on during childbirth!!! And Mother I think!!

im suprised theres not more written or known about it to be honest. It does sound scary. Even if it has been blown out of proportion itd probably be worth having the test.

Id never heard anything about it until today!

xxx

i have read abot it in one of my magz, they dont test for it here they do in other countrys think there is up raw about it and they are trying to get it on the list of test they give usjust as a routine check. but like some others have ut you can buy the swob and test tube and test for it yourself and you send it to the lab with a fee of £30 or £35 and they send your results back to you.

Why don't they do it routinely over in the UK? They have been doing it over here since my nephew was born in 1990. That is weird that they don't do that, especially since it is very inexpensive?

I've never heard of it either, we were just talking about it over in the thrid tri forum.. Sounds like something we should get done, but don't here in the UK..

I can't seem to find out exactly why not though..

I didnt like the thought of an anal swab, but then read up on it and it does sound like something I wouldn't mind paying and doing it myself and sending it off..

That website ^^^ makes it sound very serious.... Or is that just hype???
