Group step B but choosing not to have ABx

Ill be having the IVS as i have read and been confirmed that there is more cases of babys having problems from gbs then there is from the antibiotics... i dont care if it makes my arm swell my baby comes first end of i havnt carried him for 9months to let something i could prevent harm him

I am with YOU!! I couldn't have said it better.

I would for sure take it when it came to the health of my baby. *shudder* It's not like a vax..like a live disease being transfered into you body, it's just antibiotics. Unless you're allergic I wouldn't care at all, and there's almost no side effects.

This post was made by a mom of 4 healthy children, to whom I agreed to IV antibiotics twice, once without even testing positive, but as a percaution!

I've just been reading this and I just wanted to tell u my friend's story. She had no tests and didn't know she was carrying strep b, she gave birth to her daughter who was struggling to breathe after being in the strep b infected fluid, her baby was took away for medical input, my friend was told if she wanted her daughter christened then to do it now. She was quickly christened and a helicopter landed at the hospital to take her to a hospital at the other side of the country as it was the only place that had the machine to give her a chance. The doctors didn't expect her to make it, but she did. She had issues feeding, and was in hospital for weeks. After seeing what my friend and her family went through I wouldn't think twice about having the antibiotics.

I have group strep B and I won't hesitate to have the anti-biotics. If they told me I needed to stand on my head during labour to reduce the chances I would - sod the pain and effect on me - if it stops her being poorly I will do anything.

I'm worried about this. They don't test for it routinely here.

I had a urine test that came up with protein so was sent to the lab for further testing - it came back as negative/no infection - does this mean there was no GBS in my urine?

Not sure if this is the case everywhere, but here GBS is a vaginal swab that is cultured, not a urine test, not the same as a test for a UTI.

I was GBS positive with both pregnancies that I carried to term. I have talked at length with my mw about the benefits and risks of abx in labor for GBS. We did have complications from abx in labor at my daughter's birth. I've read up a lot on the research (interestingly, abx in labor have not impacted infant mortality rates--the same number of babies die now as did before treatment was widely used, but the numbers of babies dying now come from resistant strains of e coli rather than strep. No one is sure why this is). I will not be having abx in labor unless:

My water has been broken for more than 12 hours without the baby delivering.
Baby is a preemie.
I'm running a fever at the time of labor.

Unless one or more of these conditions are met, my chances are low that the infection would colonize in the baby. Additionally, if a swab comes back positive for GBS, I will self treat with vitamin C, echinachea, and garlic, all of which are effective treatments without the risks of abx.

I tested positive at 36+5 & have just finished a course of anti biotics i was prescribed but am also having them on drip during labour....anything i need to do to prevent my LO being unwell, i will willingly do....!! But i appreciate everyone has different experiences & opinions....Mine is just that i would do anything the doctors/midwifes told me to do in order to prevent my LO being unwell in any way!
