My 2.5 week old little boy has (so far) pretty much been an angel. He's been feeding perfectly and sleeping most of the time in between feeds. We're pretty much in a routine of 4 hourly feeds now, though I do give him a 3 or 3.5 hour one if he wakes and is hungry.
We're trying to keep to a daytime/ nightime routine, so I feed him upstairs at 7pm (or whenever the early evening feed falls) and then pop him into his crib. We have the curtains drawn to give him the message that this is nightime. (I then read to a little light in bed, as I'm not up for relying on the baby monitor yet!!)
However: last 4 nights we've been having some little problems. He just does not want to settle to sleep in his crib after this feed. He goes down OK, but then about 5-10 mins later he is really grumbly. He kicks his legs lots and pulls his face and sometimes goes red, and cries. He seems to be trying to do a poo or fart, but seems unable. He is not "screaming" but is definitely not happy. If we get him out again and walk around with him/ cuddle him/ rock him/ sing to him etc, he settles again and often drops off, but as soon as I pop him down again he wakes up and cries again. Last night he did finally settle around 9.30pm, but the other nights he's basically been like this right up to his 11pm feed. He then has his 11pm feed and goes straight down to sleep, no problems, and sleeps till I wake him for his next feed.
Is this colic, I'm wondering? It does not sound as extreme as people describe colic to be, but I wondered if it could be it anyway. Or is he just not wanting to go to sleep in the darker room? I have some Infacol, but am a little unsure as to whether to try it before I've got some other opinions on this.
Any ideas????

As you say, it doesn't seem extreme enough to be colic. I wonder if he does just have some extra wind? Sorry I'm not much use really, sleeping seems to be one of those trial and error things :hugs:

My boy is the same, he seems to have trouble passing wind or pooing or whatever. He gets really cranky sometimes and the only thing that will soothe him in being on the breast and even then he scrunches up his face and gets stressed out. Then all of a sudden he'll need changing over and over again for some time, lol. I have no idea what to do about it so we just ride it out but feeding him or at least letting him be on the breast seems to help somewhat in that it either pushes everything through or soothes him or whatever. Maybe give him a dummy if he doesn't want feeding again?

Does he start flaling his arms about? That was my lo's problem, he just wouldnt sleep in in his cot, the kicky legs and arms wakes him up and then he gets grumpy. We are trying to rectify it with a swaddling-sleepsack.

Sound like wind to me. I have said this a few times on various posts but what I find a life saver is baby massage, I give James a massage every night before bed, and there are particular strokes for colic, just after I start he's trumpeting like a good'n. A good tip is to lift the knees up to the chest and hold fora few seconds. I can really hear James strain when we do this bit. Any massages done on the tummy must be done in a clockwise direction. heres a link I just found with some directions https://www.slumbersounds.com/colic-massage-info.htm I went on a free baby masage course run by sure start, It was really good.

Thanks for all the advice, especially the tip about baby massage. I have tried a few simple massage strokes on him, but will try to do it every day before bed now. There is a free course at my local children's centre too, but he needs to be 6 weeks before I can start it. I'll look at the website and thanks for the specific tips.
Last night it became clear that it is a colicky thing. He would not settle after the 7pm feed, and was pulling his little legs up and then flinging them out again ang again and straining. We had real screaming last night too and a little red face, and I just ended up sobbing, as I could not bare to see the poor little mite in so much pain. It's the first time he has really "screamed". I eventually managed to console him by cuddling him really close with him head on my heartbeat, but even then still got whimpers and squirming. He settled after his later feed, but I was so upset for him by then that I could not sleep properly so I am shattered today. We may give a little bit if Infacol a try tonight and see what happens. I am loathed to give him medicine, but a few friends say it really helped their babies, and I just can't bare to see him in that much pain.
