My 7 m/o has been grunting/straining non-stop while he's awake for about 3-4 days now. He doesn't seem to be in discomfort and he poops at least once a day, normal poop for a baby on 3 solid meals.

I'm starting to wonder if he's grunting from teething? Anyone else's LO does this? What could it be?

It's funny you should say this.. my 9 m/o did this for the first time today. She was in her walker and did this grunting noise complete with straining from head to toe (her face went bright red and she even clenched her fists). Her poops are completely normal. She is currently teething but, I have another idea... I think it was a tantrum. She did it just as I moved the tv remote out of her way, and then again when I wouldn't let her touch the lap top. At first she scared me a bit as I thought she was having real trouble pooping, but as the day progressed I worked out that it always happened when she couldn't get what she wanted. Now I think it is hilarious.

sometimes I think they just discover a noise and they like making it.

Mine goes through phases with noises. First it was making a 'heh, heh' noise almost like a laugh. Then he was making a popping noise with his lips.. now he's clicking with his tongue.

My LO has done this for most of his life.

I used to think he was doing a pooh or he was constipated but it turns out it is just a noise he knows how to make!

It does my head in as my MIL always takes him to change his nappy because he was making the noise even though i would say to her hes not poohed, he is just making noises! She would never believe me as "she knows best!" and she would only discover that i was right and he hadnt poohed!!!

Thanks! My DH said it's probably just a noise he likes to make too. He does make it and when I repeat his grunts while I'm changing his diaper, he laughs.

I was also thinking it's a frustration thing too yesterday, as I too noticed he would grunt when he wants a book or to look out a window but can't get there. But poor thing, that means he's frustrated all day long because he literally grunts the entire day except while falling asleep.
