H width shoes

Does anybody else have trouble finding shoes for their LO with a H fitting? Violet was last measured as a 2 and a half H but the woman in Clarks said it was fine to put her in a 3G in particular styles. They had nothing at all in a 2 and a half H. I went to get her foot measured again a few weeks ago and she was still exactly the same size. I'm now gonna go get it done again and hope that her size has changed because I want to get her some more summery shoes that will match better with the summer clothes I've bought. If they're still the same size I'm prepared to still buy another pair because basically I want some white shoes to match the dress I've got her for her birthday party in a couple of weeks. I can't just go and buy standard shoes from Mothercare or somewhere because she is a H and has such a wide foot and high instep. I tried some on her in H&M the other day which were a size 3 and they were too tight so obviously she needs properly fitted shoes.

However, I've been on the Clarks website and they do not have one single pair of cruising shoes (she's not walking yet) that are a H fitting in stock I really don't get how this whole sizing thing works because obviously a H is a less popular fit so they don't have many in stock but if I can't buy one single pair, in any style, that are the correct fitting then what do I do? Anybody know anywhere else that sells wide fitting first shoes where I can get her correct size please?

if she's not walking yet hun could you not just get her some nice (white) bootees? sorry if im being naive here- lyss never had cruisers and she's got teeny tiny feet (small and E/F width)

I agree with not getting cruisers. As she's not walking shoes aren't really needed.

H width shoes are a nightmare. Daniel is an H fitting. We always get him Startrite shoes. Because he's an H and has a very high instep the choice of shoes we get are basically one or 2 different styles. Having wide feet means that not all style of shoe are going to be supportive enough for the foot. We've come to the realisation that there is no point looking for shoes that we like, we have to go for shoes that fit.

My son is an H width and there's barely any. In clarks she suggeted trying a G width as there's not much difference but they wouldn't fasten without being too tight (glad she was honest about it).

I didn't bother with shoes until he was properly walking. (around 13 months) xx

Startrite canvas shoes! They're about £15 and Imogen's enormously wide feet fitted in them beautifully. Once she walks more, you'll find her easier to fit into shoes, we've had real trouble with fatboy as he was walking at ten months and his feet were so chubby and arched. He's flattened out a bit since, but I still ended up spending £40 on a pair of shoes

Ethan's only a G but all standard shoes are an F. We have some luck with different styles. For us certain trainers like addidas are good as you can take the insole out and it has guidelines for fit so when Ethan stands on it you can see if it's wide enough etc. A good tip is to draw around your lo's foot when she has her weight on it then cut this out and compare with the bottom of any shoe you want to buy.

If you have to, get a G. It's about 5ml difference and so it doesn't make a huge amount of difference if she's not constantly in them. Better to get perfect fit of course, but not a deal breaker if you can't I don't think.

Also, try ebay. Again, really not great option as they've kind of molded to someone elses feet (apparently, but how much can shoes really mold?) but worth a shot if you're stuck. Some ebay are brand new too.

my LO is a h, it's a pain can never get none of the sale ones and they only seem to have them in the most unattractive pairs! Some of the H's still don't fit him as his feet arn't just wide but very chunky managed to find a pair eventually but it was such a pain.

When clarks didnt have our LO's size in a particular colour we asked if they would order the right size in for us and they said they would so dont know if thats an option or whether they just dont make shoes upto that width in some styles?

New2Bumps-shoes mold really significantly to the feet of their first owner. Look inside any of your own or LO's shoes, especially if they have a leather insole, and see how much they shape to an individual foot. Secondhand shoes aren't a good idea.

Thank you for this thread! I am having this problem. My LO is a 4.5H. He has been walking for nearly 2 months and we are struggling to get any shoes that arnt clarkes. We would like a little pair of trainers for him but we cant find any. I also need a smart pair for my sisters wedding in 3 weeks!! Its a nightmare. Thank you PP's for websites and recomended places, i will be looking at these.

My little girl I'd also a 2.5h and it was a bit of a nightmare. I found Clarke the best tbh though I looked at their website and their new summer range of cruisers is far nicer. Than the last ones which were chunky and in random colours. You can find your size and order a few different ones to try on in your local store without paying for them outright.

Hush Puppies come as a stadard shoe, and then have a "footbed" which is slotted inside (like an insole). The narrower the foot, the larger the footbed. Therefore any child measuring a 5 (for example) can have that shoe, just with a different footbed depending on foot width.

I used ot be a trained shoe fitter for Hush Puppies and Startrite PM me if you need more advice.

BTW Clarks measure differently than Hush Puppies and Startrites do, so you need to get professionally fitted for the brand you're buying. I think it's up to 1 size different to Clarks.

Clarks will let you order in up to 6 pairs so you can check they fit. However I would also say crusiers arn't nessary unless she is crusing outside or in public places. Why not just get soft pram shoes?

Lara that's what my job is too , I find Clarke are usuall half a size bigger to startrite, I also agree that no shoes are best for as long as possible , if you really want a pre walker startrite are good , I would probably go for a t bar over a Mary Jane style as they give a bit more width xx
