I had my little girl Lucieanna Adalynn a little over a week ago. She was 7lbs 4 oz. Just taking the time now to write about it... I definitely didn't have the birth I was expecting, but it was all fine in the end!
At 40 weeks 5 days my blood pressure suddenly spiked and my platelet levels were dropping. The decision was easy for the doctor - I would be induced!
The doctor wanted to put in the balloon but my cervix was completely closed and really high so I was started on Cervidil on Sunday afternoon. I had minor period-like cramps for the rest of the day and through the night. In the morning I started experiencing mild contractions about 5 minutes apart. That afternoon I was about 1cm dilated (after like 24 hours with Cervidil!) and they were able to insert the balloon. I had really intense pain almost immediately, there wasn't really even a break between contractions until they removed some of the water. Throughout the afternoon the contractions escalated and got very painful and they eventually took the balloon out when I was about 2cm dilated.
I was moved to the room where I was to deliver a few hours after they took the balloon out. I was still getting pretty mild contractions. Then they started the drip and told me I could get an epidural at any point because they would just keep turning up the medicine so I would dilate no matter what. I said I wanted to feel some more contractions first and so I waited.
Eventually I called for an epidural and got one... a little while later I started feeling increasingly strong contractions down really low. They topped up the epidural, same thing happened again, they readjusted it, same thing happened. They took it out and gave me another epidural, one they said would completely numb me to the point where I wouldn't be able to move my legs. It wore off. They topped me up again and it wore off again. At this point I was using gas and air because the pain was horrible. I was also definitely able to move my legs. The next morning I was only 4 cm dilated and the whole side of my belly was in such intense and constant pain. Then it was decided I would have a c section.
Waiting for them to set up for the c section felt like the longest few minutes in my life. By the time they were stitching me up after the section I could feel the little pokes of the needle (not just pressure like I had felt during the entire process). I was even able to use my legs to lift my bum off the table when they needed to put something under me. They said they'd never seen someone do that immediately after a c section. Guess my body kind of sucks at being effectively frozen.
I felt fine minutes after the section was over. They brought my baby to me and she very enthusiastically latched onto my breast.
Everything turned out though, because through everything my baby was fine and now I have my beautiful little girl. Hours after her birth I stared at her and said to my mom and husband "I don't know how anyone can have only one child."
