So as title says I had my baby and yeah it was EMCS which is what I did not want but despite that I still no longer regret it like I did the first two days where I was a bit traumatized but now I would not change it for the world and would have an EMCS again but much rather an elective so women who are having a section please ask away any questions your may have, including what happens if you have pre eclampsia as I did and still do and am recovering post partum from it. OR if you have queries on going into labour before your scheduled section.
  • If you want to know what the procedure entails?
  • How long it takes?
  • If you feel anything?
  • If they give you pills for antacid before hand?
  • Injections, IVs and blood tests?
  • Uterine contractions
  • after affects of epidural/spinal
  • Will you need a GA or Spinal?
  • Will you be able to hold your baby right away? (yes if you have an elective)
  • Can you breastfeed?
  • Can DH cut the cord? (Yes he can, mine did even after an emcs)
  • Can you take a video camera or ipod in to theatre? (Yes if you have an elective)
  • How long do you have to go without eating before having an elective?
  • when can you eat and drink again?
  • When are you up and about after the section?
  • Does recovery hurt as much as they say?
  • how does your wound look post partum?
  • when can you stop heavy pain relief?
  • When can you start exercising? (usually as soon as you feel well personally)
  • Do I have to wait six weeks before driving?
  • How long until I can go to the gym or swim lengths again?
  • Can I bath or just shower afterward?
  • When is my first shower and proper meal after section?
  • Can I drink water or have ice chips straight after section? (Yes I had ice chips straight after section then water and tea seven hours after)

any more questions please add them and I can try to answer them all
the procedure, the stitches, the scar, the tummy afterward etc

I'm Here to help

very nice of you, I can help as well, mine was EMCS after 30 hrs of labor

Hey aww you poor thing, did you find the 30hr labour worse than the C-section recovery???

how did you find the recovery after being labour as well as the section?

i think i was already so exhausted it just made it harder, also i had not been allowed food or liquids for 15 hours

you poor thing :hugs: really? 15hrs? that must have been really hard. Surely you were given ice chips to suck on? I was as soon as I left surgery after going twelve hours without eating anything although yours was emergency after labour so maybe you ate before your labour started? I was just so so so thirsty and actually had a couple of glasses of water two hours later in the SCBU unity with my little girl and I was fine, the midwives were worried I would throw it up but I didn't so I had some tea and toast seven hours after my section at around 1am and was fine bur I imagine you would have been too tired and overwhelmed to eat? I could not eat much the next day when it all sank in, I just drank tons of water and coffee lol and took my pain relief

SRSLY???? that is terribly rude!!! I would complain, lol I did when I was out of surgery and the spinal wore off the midwife said she could only offer me paracetamol and I asked to speak to the doctor on call and then suddenly she changed and got the charge nurse to come in and charter me morphine :D so yeah stand up for your rights xoxo

i was so tired and confused.......i was literally begging for ice and they wouldn't give me anything till i was out of recovery for a while...

Hi Arisa and other girlies who had a c-section after labour (massive congratulations you guys and bloody well done!!).

I have some questions. I have already requested an elective c-section, for a number of reasons - I read that a disproportionately high number of obstetricians used elective c-section for birth, as they felt it was the safest option. My sister and best friend also had very bad labours with bad tears - 18 months later my sister still has urinary problems and can't have sex with her partner. I've sort of come to the conclusion that c-section may be the safest option (although obviously with its own set of risks) for me and the baby.

I was wondering, as you have experienced both labour and c-section, knowing what you now know, how would you feel about an elective c-section? I'd really appreciate your frank views. Also, how potentially traumatic does labour feel internally to your body? Also, did you feel it affected your ability to bond with your baby in any way?

Congratulations again girlies on your happy news. :)x Many thanks in advance.x

If I had been able to know the future I would have skipped labor and had the c section......

I was so tired and weak from going thru all that first that I fell asleep on the operating table. I was way out of it when I met my girl for the first time. elective c sections go much easier

Congrats on your new babies ladies. I have two questions, how long do you be in recovery for and how soon did you have visitors. I had vacum birth last time and was overwhelmed with visitors, so hoping this time i dont have same amount there

I think when it was all said and done I was in recovery for about 45 mins to an hour. In recovery I was able to nurse and have skin to skin. Once I got to my room only my mom was there as I had my son at 2:30 in the morning. Later in the day around 12:00 my family came to visit.

Mine was an EMCS after 36 hours of labour and only progressing to 3 cms

This is a great idea!!

I had an emergency cesarean after 9 hours of labour and during those 9 hours if someone had offered me a gun i reckon I'd have finished myself off!! I planned to do it naturally but when it came to it oh my god. I wasn't allowed ANY pain relief what so ever for the whole time.. as things went very wrong and I had to be monitored. I know nothing about the actual procedure as I was just out to sleep and I also know nothing about family visiting etc my baby was in NICU for a month. If I'd have had a Csection in the first place shed have been fine

Next time I will be having an elective cesarean (its been advised anyway), I found the recovery very easy :)

Xxx

to answer the labour question, well I did not experience labour, just had the emcs due to pre-eclampsia but wanted an elective as it would have been a nicer more clam experience however I do not regret my choice to have a section and to Feline, I would go for the elective section, if your SIL is still unable to have sex 18 months later then that would have me going to sue the people that performed my vaginal birth not to mention needing severe counselling, therapy etc, so yeah go for the section, i have NO urinary or sex problems and am only three weeks pp
YES it still hurts me to walk around the house and I cannot do much other than look after baby but so what? the benefits outweigh the negatives

I was in recovery for almost 2 hours I think, my family stayed in the waiting room all night when I was in labor and were there the next morning when I got my section. I saw my baby in recovery (nursed for the first time) then went to my regular room and I had a few visitors....I was in a lot of pain and could not get out of bed at first so it was family only

yeah make it clear you do not want visitors especially in the first 24 hours unless they are close family and your spouse around as the spinal if you have that (and you probably will have that if its not an emcs) wears off quickly and you will need more than just paracetamol, I persisted as the pain got worse within two hours of surgery and I could not see my little girl which created stress and trauma as did the fast pace of the C-section, so yeah a planned one will be so much nicer so do not worry :) I hope you get your elective and nothing happens in between, as babies born early for whatever reason do have more problems like my girl who had breathing issues.
As far as pain goes, the spinal and the IV drip hurt the most, when they finally stopped trying to put the damn needle in my hands, they used my arm and i was bruised everywhere and the spinal was heavy and felt like a large bee sting and tons of pressure but then when I went numb it was okay although only one leg went numb so I worried I would feel the procedure but I did not feel a thing and they had already cut me open when they asked if I could feel anything so you will be fine. its like being at the dentist under local anaesthetic, just tons of pressure but even though It was brief for me, seeing your baby for the first time is so amazing its just surreal :cloud9: with electives you can hold your baby once they have had their apgar tests and your DH has cut the cord then you can have skin to skin and breast feed if you like

Thanks ladies for your responses. I dont know anyone really who's had a section so am very clueless. Im thinking first 24 hours only my mum, OH and son coming to visit. In laws can wait til next day

Thanks girlies, really appreciate your replies. :)x
