I got a Hair splinter on Monday when I was in the shower. I tried putting a salt plaster on it yesterday to draw it out but nothing happened. I went to the pharmacy and they gave me magnesium sulphate and a dressing to put on but a friend just mentioned it might not be ok for Pregnancy?

I didnt even think as it's just a drawing solution to go on the sole of my foot but does anyone know?>!

MgSO4 is a pregnancy category A drug, so as safe as it gets basically.

It is used to stop preterm labour and treat hypertension in pregnancy so quite safe and that's when given as an IV solution. So it should be okay applied externally. That said, never a bad idea to check with pharmacy. I'm not in doubt that this is okay, just you know, med advice from an online forum and all that...

What is a hair splinter? We must call it something different here.

I just checked on boots pharmacy and they say its ok too... the pharmacist knew I was due to give birth too so I guess it must be!

Uhhh you ever get a hair stuck in your skin? I find people with jack russells (coarse hair) get it stuck, like a splinter, and it can get infected and very sore. My husband tends to shave in the bath and if I dont clean it well or one gets hidden in the bath mat, when I stand on it it pushes under my skin. Almost feels like glass under it x

ahh okay, I got you. I've never had that, no, but then again my dog was a bearded collie and so my trouble was with long massive fluffy hair all over the place... used to get a hair from undercoat in my eye now and again and that was AWFUL!!

That sounds super painful. I think the soles of my feet are too tough and scary for hair to pierce them... I really need a pedigree!! LOL Hope it resolves soon.

Never heard of a hair splinter but both my GP and obstetric physio recommended Magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts) in the bath for leg cramps, SPD, swelling and to regulate BP. Worked a treat :)

Ah cool at least I know I can have it then haha!

The soles of my feet are SHOCKING. Honestly, glass can't usually penetrate it, but hairs are so fine... it's horrendously painful as they are so sharp! Gonna put my magnesium on in a bit. Gotta leave it under the dressing for 2 days...hope I dont have to labour with it on, poor midwife'll be a bit confused...especially if it smells haha!
