Just got a letter to say they are changing the way they charge for there overdraft. Im £400 in mine so its gonna cost me £1 a day :( god knows what im gonna do, i just dont need this so close to xmas and baby coming :(:(:(

cant you go in there, ask to set up installments to pay your overdraft back then they shouldn't charge you any extra. its what mine let me do, :hugs:

I got the same letter...... I'm going to tell them to shove their account up their backside!!!

I was disgusted.... however I don't know what bank is going to be any better! They are joining with Lloyds TSB so I was wondering if they could do anything.

Sorry I can't be of anymore help but I'm just as frustrated as you!

ive just signed up for a switch to the alliance n lecister, u get £100 for doing that!!

switching is a good option, just beware now the halifax have started something new, it wont be long before the others follow :(

My OH is with Halifax, they have been trying to push this new account on him for ages but he refused as he knew it would cost him alot due to how he uses his overdraft.

Now they are changing the accounts regardless.

There was a recent thing about it on Watchdog.

OH is in the process of switching to Alliance and Leicester. They have been so helpful unlike Halifax and made the switch very easy.

All banks charge for overdrafts - A + L is 50p per day to a MAXIMUM of £5 per month. So worth looking into if your thinking of switching.

Ugh I know, I'm well into mine :(

This is awful! Can you change your bank? I've heard really bad things about Halifax and their charges recently, charging people loads of money for going a few pence overdrawn. And this morning the news said credit cards might start charging an annual fee even to own a credit card. Disgusting!

we went 50 pounds overdrawn by accident a few months ago, didnt realise had no letter or phone call then got a statement saying we are 1100 overdrawn because of charges, my partner went to the bank and they said they sent letters and phoned and charged us for that aswell but we didnt recieve anything, they still havnt sorted it out hes been up there today and they said he needs to speak to a certain man who isnt there till wednesday they really take the piss x

apparently the halifax have brought out a new account called ultimate reward. They charge you £12.50 a month but from mid december you get £5 a month of this back in a bonus payment each month so it doesnt actually cost you £12.50. You also get travel insurance, breakdown cover, mobile phone cover + a lot of other benefits as well as a £300 free overdraft ... so although you are paying abit per month for the priviledge, if you use all the extras it might be worthwhile. also if they charge £1 a day for overdraft, you could easily reach the £7.50 that this acct would cost you regardless of the benefits.

just a thought.
