Handmade Mei Tai

Have any of you lovely ladies had a go at making your own mei tai?
I really want to get some nice fabric and make my own, as they can be quite expensive.
Ive seen some patterns online but have any of you ladies had a go yourselves?

I've also made my own without a pattern- a mei tai is really just a big rectangle with straps coming off the corners (with a lot of reinforcing of course )

how much reinforcing did you do?
im not really that great with a sewing machine but i really am into making one myself!

Okay, so here are some piccies I only have the Maya Tie style at home atm (the other carriers are kept in hubby's car and at the grandparents house).

With the hood up:

the hood isn't really big enough for Emma anymore- needs to be taller. This was the first carrier I made myself and I also found that the straps weren't as long as I'd like them to be.

Here is a pic of a reinforced corner (on a commercial carrier since the maya tie has a hidden layer with all the reinforcing). Just a box with an x in the middle

The only other tip I can think of is to sew it with upholstery thread- it's good and strong so I like to use it for carriers hth a bit
