Has anyone else been told they're expecting a big baby?

DS was born in 2015 at a respectable 7.12lbs...but this baby is estimated to be up on the 97th percentile! My MW doesn't seem overly concerned and said that babies over 9lbs are still on the normal range and shouldn't require any intervention? I have a growth scan at 36 weeks (end of March) to see what they think and they may offer me the option to be induced a week early.

Is anyone else in a similar position? I'd love to hear what you've been told and what options you're considering? I'm trying not to panic!

They didn't mention it at the scan and I've not seen a midwife about it yet, but I had a growth scan last week at 30 weeks and he was measuring just below the 95th centile. If he stays on his current plotted curve he'd be over 9lb 10 at 40 weeks. Maybe they'll see how he is doing as I have another grown scan at 33 weeks. My daughter was 8lb3.
Were you given your measurements based on fundal height? You'll get a more accurate idea at a scan I think and just deal with it as it comes.

With my 1st he measured off the charts for size. At my 39 week scan I was told to expect a 10lb+ baby. He was 7,14.5.

Yep me. I had my growth scan last Wednesday and she was measuring on the 95th centile. My previous two have been 8lb 12 and 9lb 4 so I don't do small babies.

They have said if I continue to stay on the higher side, they will give me a sweep at 38 weeks. x

Thanks for the replies! The 97th percentile was given to me at a 4D scan and confirmed at a follow up scan with the same place. When I told my midwife she did my fundal measurement and it was a couple of cm above average apparently but she said baby felt like he still had a lot of room! I've heard that scans can be inaccurate, I guess it's because it was confirmed at a follow up appt that i'm inclined to believe it!

I would be OK with sweeps a week or so early to get things moving, I just don't like the idea of induction in case these measurements are wrong and baby turns out smaller. I also hear that induction is likely to end up with some kind of intervention. I would hate that if the baby turned out to be a normal size which would have been fine at 40+ weeks!

With my first, I was told throughout the whole pregnancy that he would be big, but I was never offered a growth scan, and he was, he was born a whopping 10lb 9. However this time round I'm having cereal growth scans but I seem to be on the small side, I haven't had any growth scans yet but my first is on Monday. My cousin just had her baby and she was told to expect a 9lb baby, he was born 6lb 12oz x

With both my kids they told me to expect big babies. 7lb 5oz and 8lb 1oz so they can Definitely be off

Both mine were estimated to be almost 2lbs more than what they were. They told me my daughter would be 9lbs 7, she was 7lbs 10, and my son was going to be almost 10lbs, and he was 8lbs 12 (hardly small mind you!) but they’ve just been so out with mine I don’t trust the measurements at all.

I was told both my boys would be big as I measured 2 weeks ahead with both. DS#1 was born 8 days early at 9lbs 6 ounces and DS#2 was born 3+1 weeks early and weighed 8lbs 7 ounces so I trust those scans alot. DS#2 was estimated to be over 10lbs if I had gone to my due date.

I was told at 28 weeks that my little one was weighing 4lb already. I went back for my 33 week check up and he is now weighing 5lb 6oz. My wife asked the consultant how accurate the scans were for weight and she said "the literature says 15% either way " so in the scheme of things not that accurate.

Yes baby above 97th percentile.

Femur length, head circumference and abdomen size are all end of scale so predicted 10lbs or over currently.
Baby was 5lbs A week ago at 31 weeks.

They have said they won’t let me natural birth still like this at 36 because baby has cysts in abdomen and they don’t want size to hinder delivery.
Was leaning to elective anyway though.

First born was only 6lbs4 at 38 weeks!

I was told to expect a 10lb baby. My little girl was 7lb5oz. The estimates are often wrong!

Thanks everyone - a real mixed bag of responses! If my growth scan does indeed 'confirm' that this is a whopper i'm going to request sweeps from 38-39 weeks and see what happens! I've also heard that breast pumping can help move things along, anyone have experience of that!?

I was told baby 2 was 8lb 5oz at 36 plus 6. Born 1 week later at 8lb 6oz so almost bang on. He would of been near to 10lb if born due date

My first was a respectable 7lb 4oz. I had growth scans with my second one and he was estimated to be the same at delivery, but came out 10lb 8oz, was not expecting that!!!
I am currently 33 weeks with my third, and have been advised to deliver at 38 weeks due to size (also have gd this time which doesn't help).

I’m scared of having a bigger baby! My last 2 babies were 9lb 1 and one was born at 39+2 and the other 40+5,
I have a mw appointment on Friday so if I’m measuring big which I think I will as I’m huge!! I’m going to ask for a growth scan.

My sister was told her baby will be HUGE and must have Csection, so she did... baby came out whopping 7lbs 1oz!!!!!!!!! and second time, they said the same thing, baby was 7lbs 4oz!

Opposite happened for me...i was sent for a scan at 39/40 weeks because the midwife said my fundal height wasnt where it should be. They told me at the scan that everything seemed okay. He was born a few days later at 9lb 13oz

I went for my mw appointment on Friday and I’m measuring 3-4 weeks ahead! So I had a growth scan yesterday which said baby was approximately 3lb 6 at 29 weeks so on the 81st percentile so I’m not sure if il be having another growth scan til my next appointment.

I don't know where DS1 and DS2 were sitting as I didn't have regular scans. I had regular scans with DS3 as I had GD so I was able to get an idea of how he was growing. He was in the 95th percentile and they kept trying to get me to consent to an induction because he was going to be around the 9lb mark and they didn't want me going past 38 weeks. Didn't worry me because my eldest was 8lb 15oz at 40 weeks (EMCS) and my second was 8lb 10oz at 38 weeks (drug free labour and delivery). I knew I wouldn't go past 38 weeks again and kept telling the Specialist they could shove their induction and me delivering on their scheduled where the sun doesn't shine. Midwife was the only one who supported me in what I wanted. But, as expected at 38 weeks I went into labour on my own and he was 8lb 11oz - another drug free labour and delivery. Just for some comparison, DS4 I had regular growth scans due to GD again and he was in the 67th percentile. I had him at 39 weeks after I wanted to be induced due to the back pain and he was 8lb 5oz so if he'd been born at 38 he would have been around 7lb 7oz. Their guesses were pretty spot on. At your next ultrasound ask them for the estimated weight. They should be able to work this out with the chest measurements.
