Has anyone else been told they're expecting a big baby?

The scans are usually so off. It's hard to tell via ultrasound how big a baby will truly be. I had 2 c-sections for other medical reasons, but they told me my first would be huge - he was 8lb11oz, which was big but nothing crazy. With my second, they told me he'd be 10 pounds or bigger, they told me he was HUGE. He was born at 7lb14oz, almost a full pound smaller than his big brother! So you never know. I wouldn't take too much stock into the ultrasound. Plenty of babies bigger than 8, 9 even 10 pounds are born naturally with no major issues.

DS was born in 2015 at a respectable 7.12lbs...but this baby is estimated to be up on the 97th percentile! My MW doesn't seem overly concerned and said that babies over 9lbs are still on the normal range and shouldn't require any intervention? I have a growth scan at 36 weeks (end of March) to see what they think and they may offer me the option to be induced a week early.

Is anyone else in a similar position? I'd love to hear what you've been told and what options you're considering? I'm trying not to panic!

Is the baby measuring on the 97th centile on a customised growth chart?

My three were all big. It didn't cause any major problems during labour or birth. They were 9lbs 7oz, 11lbs and 10 lbs 10oz.

I read a study that showed that unless you are diabetic on average there was no increased risk of delivering a large baby. There are however increased risk when baby is predicted to be big. That is because once doctors think the baby is big many start messing around with things like early induction. And those interventions are actually more likely to lead to complications than the size of the baby.

My growth scan was more or less correct they predicted 8lbs8-9 at term and he was 8lbs4 st 39+3

Amen to this. My big baby was actually the easiest of the three to deliver.
