Hi ladies,

Yesterday I was with my mom at the store, and I was feeling kind of off. We were doing some shopping and all of a sudden I just started pouring sweat, and I knew I was going to throw up. Then my vision went black and I fell in the middle of an isle, clutching the racks. I didn't fall on my stomach luckily.

I woke up not a minute later surrounded by people who were putting water on me, giving me drinks and food. I sat up and felt better after a few minutes but it was really scary not to mention embarrassing.

I called my ob and she said I probably was just dehydrated and needed to eat, which was true, but its not like I had nothing all day. I asked about the baby and she didn't seem worried at all, but I still feel worried.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm trying to just take it easy but I'm at work and I'm worried about it happening again and the affect on the LO.

Not in such an extreme way, but I did black out and fall at home a few days ago. We were having a bad heat wave, and combined with low blood pressure, it caused me to black out.

I've never had this happen to me but I can totally understand why it freaked you out, that sounds so scary! Make sure your drinking plenty of water, if your still worried I would call your OB again and tell her your concerned.

This happened to me a few weeks ago while I was at an early pregnancy physio class (also happened in my last pregnancy) as I was at the hospital the physio took me to be checked out and the midwife said it was low blood pressure.

I was the same started sweating, feeling very sick, had like little black static dots infront of my eyes then passed out, as it had happened before I knew what was coming next so was already on the floor when I passed out.

Midwife didn't seem concerned and even let me go back to my class, however I am going to mention it to my own midwife as I haven't seen her since it happened.

Xx

I had this happen with my ds and it happened for first time at my mil on tuesday evening.
For me its just one of things as my blood pressure plumits every now and then
Xx

Thanks ladies... Reassuring to know its happened to others and you're all still well.

Do you think the blood pressure drop is random just because we have more blood in our bodies now?

I've read some that it seems to be positional or based on physical activity.

I've been drinking a lot and I did call one of the nurses at my office who assured me again that everything is fine, unless I have repeated episodes in the same day. I have a scan on Monday so I'm not going to press to go in.

Low blood pressure is common during the second trimester, and yes, it's due to increasing blood volume. It's at it's lowest point around the mid-point of pregnancy and gradually gets better from there. The same thing happened during my last pregnancy so I'm not surprised. Heat and dehydration will make it worse.

YES! this happend to me on the bus on my way to my 16 wk MW appt & i was with DD & my mum, standin talking the next i said to my mum i didnt feel good & then i was sweating, eyes went all black, felt so cold & i could hear my mum talk to me but i couldnt answer next thing i know i was dangling over the pram!! .. MW said that my blood pressure was very low when i got to the appt & that my blood sugar had probably just dropped far too low & that was how my body was reacting, so she got me lucozade & made me wait it i felt better n stuff , said if it happend again i was to go straight to Maternity triage! .. its happend once since but i didnt fall over as i was at home & i just lay on the couch with a drink till it passed! .. deffinetly contact ur MW or local hosp for even just a reassurance appt .. hope u feel better soon , as it honestly not a nice thing to happen to u , espesh when out in public! i was mortified but even shocked that no one even asked if i was ok or offerd to help me off the bus or anything! .. but i was just sooo thankful i was with my mama xxxxxx

Ugh! I'm sorry to hear about that, Siobhan! That sounds so horrible! I can't believe no one even asked if you were ok! I was really grateful to be with my mom, too. It would have been so much worse if she wasn't there. I hope it doesn't happen again! (To any of you ladies). xxx

This happened to me often during my last pregnancy. My DS#2 hour was big (the whole time measuring about two weeks bigger than he should be and i knew the conception date!) turned out he was laying/pushing on my vagus nerve/artery (it runs down the center of your body slightly to the right) and this caused the vagal response which is where you pass out due to limited/restricted blood flow. This happened so often that I was forced to quit working! It never returned after DS was born and I have been lucky so far that this one isn't causing that.
other factors can cause fainting such as dehydration and simply moving or switching positions too quickly during pregnancy which cause limited blood flow to the brain. Best of luck and the only advice I cam hibe is that once it has happened it is more likely to happen again, stay hydrated, move slowly and don't over do or push yourself too hard.

I had this happen to me when I was prey with my DD. I was actually on vacation in Ireland. My ex husband and I were walking up the hill to Blarney Castle and when we got to the top, I thought I was going to pass out. I had to sit down, head between the knees until it passed. I was shaky but okay after it. Never happened again. I think I was 17w at the time. I haven't had any episodes like that yet, knock on wood, with this preg.

I passed out during my last pregnancy at 22 weeks and regularly felt sweaty/sick/dizzy as though I was going to faint but laid down quick. Now I am pregnant and have a toddler I am scared to go out in case a faint with her and noone is there to look after her.

It's horrible.

I've had this happen about a half dozen times now. My OB diagnosed me with HYPOtension (specifically postpradial) and vasovagal syncope (a fancy word for passing out due to certain things).

When I eat too much the extra blood volume from the babies shunts to my GI tract and simply put, doesn't leave enough for my brain lol

I was told to eat smaller meals, get up afterward cautiously, and when I feel one coming on I'm supposed to hit the floor before I lose the ability to get there safely on my own.

I was told it should get better with time, but to eat more salt in the meantime, eat smaller meals more frequently and be sure I stay well hydrated

(I should say OB did bloodwork fist to rule out an iron deficiency, thyroid or blood sugar problems. I'm also supposed to pick up a Holter monitor tomorrow to wear for 24 hours to rule out heart problems....but in general hypotension doesn't necessarily amount to anything serious if that's what's caused your fainting OP!)

Not with this pregnancy but I did with my last. I got up quickly to run to the toilet and be sick but somehow passed out on the way, hit my head off the wall (resulting in big black eye!) and woke up shaking and having convulsions! No idea how long I was out for as there was no one else at home, but it took me around 30 minutes to remember how I got there. x

Helen that sounds awful! You poor thing!

Argh that is so scary, Helen! I'm sorry that happened to you! :hugs: That's a big fear of mine, being alone if it happens again.

Messica - my OB was kind of nonchalant about the whole thing. She hasn't offered to do any tests, though she did say if it happened again she would. I'm still pretty regularly dizzy, but I haven't come near fainting again yet. Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm sorry it's happened to you so much!

I read somewhere that the dizziness is the worst in the mid second tri, though who knows if its just google hearsay.
