Has anyone ever had a trapped nerve in your neck?

Ive had excruciating pain at the back of my neck/head and top of my shoulder for over a week and have managed to get a doc appointment this afternoon. The pain has been so bad its been keeping me up at night; it like pulsations/contractions of pain even when im not moving and seems worse when im not moving much. has anyone had this before and what can i do to help it? xx

not in my neck but in my chest and back and it f**king kills!! worst pain ever!! but couldn't find any relief, it just went after a few days!!!
