Basically I had direct contact with my niece on Saturday for around 3 hours. On Sunday my sister tells me her daughter has come out in chickenpox. The doctor confirmed it was chickenpox on Monday.

I've never had chickenpox and bloodtests show I'm not immune to it so I'm at a very high risk of getting it myself. My doctor is giving me the anti viral injection VZIG today but said its only 50% effective at preventing chickenpox.

I was wondering whether anyone else has had the VZIG vaccine whilst pregnant and whether you had any side effects and if it stopped you getting chickenpox? Or if you did get chickenpox after having the vaccine in pregnancy was everything okay with your baby?

I had chickhen pox at 34 weeks with my son a really bad case of them was covered head to foot in places I don't care to mention lol anyways he's now a 18 year old strapping lad who's just gone to uni ! They gave you nothing back in them days lol I've just gone on to have my 4th . Xxx

Thanks for your response. I've read if you get chicken pox in pregnancy then the risk of birth defects is pretty much zero after 28 weeks gestation and 1-2% before 28 weeks gestation.

So looks like I just have to wait for 4 weeks now to see if I come down with it and if so I'll get referred to a specialist to do detailed scans to check for any problems :(
