Hey ladies

I know this is a bit of a random question but i wondered if anyone has been able to feel their babys head 'inside', like with their finger or anything?

A friend of mine thought she could feel her babys head internally at 33 weeks and i just wondered if this is possible?

Trudie x

I can only feel what I think is his head but from the outside as my LO hasn't dropped. I'm not confident enough to go feeling around 'inside' my midwife hasn't even done that yet. Eeek.

I wouldnt even no what the hell i was feeling for in there and if icud even reach that far up tbh, MW's can struggle and they're comin in from below haha, n isnt it about 4-5 inches up inside anyway, to get to the cervix i mean? so she wud have like reallllly long fingers lol

ha ha i thought it sounded a bit weird! i have no idea what she felt then lol x

I don't think it's possible.. if you think how long your cervix is, and you can only feel it when your waters have broken and baby is engaged and "on route" isn't that right?

(First time mum.. could be wrong lol) x x

It can be felt externally, but not until you are at least somewhat dialated, and your uterus has shortened.

At my 35 week appt. my Dr. said she felt the baby's head but it bounced up, and he was not engaged yet - even though I am 2 cm. dialated and 75% effaced.

If your friend thought she could feel her baby at 33 weeks, then she is either totally wrong about what she is feeling (most likely!) or needs to go to the hospital to get checked for signs of early labor.

Your cervix should be closed at that time. I would also think that she wouldn't want to go sticking her finger up there (and introducing infection!!) unless she is very sterile!!!

Most likely, she just felt her own cervix, and thought it was the baby's head.

At my 38+4 week appt my doctor did an internal. No thinning, no dilation, and he said he couldn't feel the head which he thought was odd. So he scheduled an ultrasound to check babies position. Going tomorrow. So yes, it must be possible to feel the head, but no way I could reach up far enough!

She could of felt the outline of her baby's head, like the baby could of been low and she felt it through the vaginal wall. I know with all 4 of my other pregnancies I could feel it. When the baby's head engages it will be lower than the cervix because the cervix is normally in a posterior position and during labor or for some even a little before your cervix will move forward to where the baby's head is. so she could of felt the hard bump or curve of the baby's head. I could be wrong though, this is just what my OB told me when I asked about the hard bump in my vag while pregnant with my daughter.

Yes you can feel the babies head around the cervix. You don't need to be dilated or put your fingers in your cervix to feel it. If you gently push up on the upper vaginal wall you can feel it if the head is starting to engage. I have felt all mine from 33-34 weeks sometimes it's more obvious then others. Right now at 39 weeks I can feel babies head starting at about 2 Cms in

My midwife could feel my babys head when she done a sweep. but I really would not go poking up there to try and feel babys head

My Dr could feel my baby's head when she did an internal check when I was 30ish weeks. my cervix is still totally intact with no dilation, she said she could bounce his head with her finger, and that it was normal and good. Having said that, I wouldn't go fishing around in there on my own to try to find it!

my oh claims he felt dd head, but i gave birth the next day, so i may have already been in labout but not noticed yet lol

It is totally possible!
I can feel my little girls head with the tip of one finge and I know it is because I can feel her pulse <3

Yes, as others have said it's likely she's feeling the babies but if she's feeling hair she should get to hospital!

We felt willows head at 40 weeks. The husband got a shock during sex! She wasn't near my cervix though, to get to my cervix you had to go round her head and back some

Yep, it's very easy to feel. I think I first felt it around 30 weeks. Barely have to put your fingers in to feel it through the vaginal walls. Some days he's lower than others. If I'm going to go for a feel, I do it in the shower, so my fingers are nice and clean.

It is indeed possible. If you're at all dilated or cervix has shortened, you can feel it. I'm 29 weeks and 2cm dilated. Every night I have to insert progesterone tablets up there, and my LO is breech, I can feel her kicking right where I'm dilated. but if she can feel actual head or hair or skin, she needs to go to hospital because waters have probably ruptured at that point.

I haven't tried myself but my dr said she felt the babies head through my uterus at my 36 week appt. She really wasn't reaching too far in (maybe a couple of inches) so I'm sure I could easily feel it if I tried. All our bodies are different but I think it could be possible that your friend was feeling the head.

I have been able to feel his head on my vaginal wall. I kinda poked around a bit while doing my perineum massage. But yes, it is possible once baby is head down and engaged to feel their head. You can feel a hard lump about an inch or two on the front vaginal wall. You can also feel your babies head through your cervix if you are dilated enough. I was just reading about it today.. but i doubt thats what she was talking about.
