Evening ladies :flower:

Just wondering if anyone has just watched the Sex Education programme on C4? They are doing a campaign to Stop Pimping Our Kids, and were looking at the way in which major retailers are selling clothing that is completely inappropriate for children. The items of clothing included a T-Shirt which said 'Don't Even Think About It', Knickers with the words 'Love' on them, tassled bikini sets, padded bras and high heels - all aimed at very young children. What are your thoughts?

This is the link to their site btw :flower:

I agree, i saw a padded bra in peacocks age 6-7. What the hell does a 6-7yr
old need a bra for??

Also thongs from age 6. Again, Absolutely awful!
Loads of tiny shoes with high heels. :(

I'm watching this on C4+1 so will comment more after, have seen some of the stuff and think it's disgusting. Padded bras, hot pants and 2-3" heels for 3 to 8 year olds? Blehhh:(

Oooh love watching programs like this, even I it is because I love to shout at the TV! I will watch it online tomorrow but sounds awful. I hate seeing even small heels on young girls let alone thongs, bras and inappropriate slogans. But a ever that is just my opinion and if others want to dress their daughters as mini sluts then that's their call!!! ;)

Yeah it was really shocking! I just can't understand how a parent could buy these things for their child tbh  of course the retailers are at fault but if the parents didn't buy it in the first place, then there would be no demand for these items

I saw a child's t-shirt once (in shop) saying "FCUK ME" :nope:

I watched it. There's no way I'd let my daughter wear any of that stuff.

Some parents must be okay with it though, kids don't exactly go out clothes shopping by themselves!

I was cringing at everything they were showing!

I haven't seen it, but I do think girls have to grow up too fast these days. I want my LO to have nice clothes and to look well, but things like high heels and padded bras are too much, too soon.

I've seen pictures of little Suri Cruise wearing high heels and I just feel sorry for her - it's like she's not allowed to just be a kid. I was talking to one of my friends about this earlier and we were saying that when we were young, we only had school shoes, runners and maybe one pair of sandals or non-school shoes. The idea of having more didn't even occur to us until we were much older, and the first time I ever wore heels was for my Confirmation when I was 12 years old.

bump -does anyone else have any thoughts on this? :flower:

I wasn't even allowed an FCUK hoody when I was 15! Let alone a really young girl!

I do think kids grow up faster now days. I mean at 13 I was more bothered about going out on my bike or trying to get into a 15 rated film, sex never even crossed my mind at that age!

I watched a newish video of Rhianna the other day and it had words in it like 'Sex in the air I love the smell of it' and 'Sticks and stones may break my bones by chains and whips excite me' Usually I like rhianna but I do think she has sold her soul a bit especially as she is a role model for young girls. I was shocked I tell you, shocked lol! and Im not even prudish!

Ava-Mae is not going to be allow to watch the music channels until she is 18 lol.

Omg don't get me started on these recent music videos...it's just porn in disguise imo.

Loads of people go on about sex ed in schools but they don't realise that children are influenced by sex from a much younger age. Clothes are just the tip of the iceberg, and an hour in school one day of the week wont just do it.

That's so true. This programme is on every night this week I think and last night they were looking at the fact that lads mags are being displayed at the same height as childrens comics so our children really are exposed to material of a sexual nature from a very, very young age

i saw a bit of this program and while i do think its disgusting, there must be parents out there who are buying the clothes otherwise they wouldnt be made and this i find very disturbing why would you buy your child clothes with slogans like that very strange.

Oooh i meant to watch this :dohh: hope its on catch-up

I think little bras/thongs/bikinis are another example of children growing up too fast its sad

But i don't think dressing up in mommys heels/clothes/make-up is bad its just copying adults which all children do..at least then they know these items are for grown-ups

I watched this yesterday.. I was disgusted!! And the little girl on there saying she liked the T-shirt .. She seemed waaaay above her years even by the way she spoke!

Hell would have to freeze over before I brought my daughter anything like that! I don't think the retailers are to blame though tbh. If I saw an item of clothing like the T-Shirt for example and Olivia asked for it I would see the hidden message behind that slogan and think "hang on...NO"... Surely the parents must see what these actually mean?? If so why buy them...If people don't buy them...Retailers won't make them!

I agree it's awful. They said that the padding in the bikini and bra was 'a modesty layer not to enhance cleavage' which is a very poor excuse.
I think the problem is 5 and 6 year olds sometimes wear these tiny shorts and heels and ppl think it's a bit much but it's ok. Try telling that child when she's 14 that suddenly, after 9 years, the short shorts are suddenly not appropriate anymore. Kids don't understand that once they hit puberty and they start to look more womanly that short shorts can attract a very different kind of attention, attention that they're not ready to deal with. A 16 year old in denim shorts will understand and will tone it down with maybe trainers, a shirt etc... a child doesn't understand this at all.

my and my next door spoke about this and although most of it is wrong, Me who had boobs by the time i was 8, would not object to a slightly padded bra/bikini top.. We dicussed in lenth about how even as adults would we feel after getting out a pool/sea and bits getting cold and having hard nips sticking out? Its the same for younger girls i remember i hate hate hated having to wear a swimming costume that was just 1 layer for swimming at school it made me soo body aware, where as normally i would not care

That's really interesting and nice to see things from a different perspective. I suppose that when you look at it in that way, some girls do develop very early and therefore a bra or bikini top that is slightly padded for that reason could be seen as acceptable :flower: x

I got boobs at 9 but never wore a bra til about 12! Don't know why, just never occurred to me  I had those little crop top things (like a vest but just to cover boobs lol) from about 11, which I guess serve the same purpose :flower:
