Has Anyone Used Heparin and Carried to Term After Prior Losses?

I was just wondering if anyone was given heparin injections in pregnancies after they had lost prior pregnancies for undiagnosed reasons. And if so, did it make the difference to whether you carried to term or not?

I have lost lots of pregnancies, all for undiagnosed reasons. My Anticardiolipins were slightly elevated after my 5th pregnancy which was lost at 13.5 weeks, so the Dr has decided that even though they can't definatively say I have a clotting disorder, they want me on aspirin/heparin injections.

I am curious and hopeful that this will be the magic cure which will help my baby make it to as close to term as I can get, (due to prior pre-term birth at 25 weeks, and multiple m/cs, they hope I get to 32 weeks, thats the goal).

So if anyone has used heparin and gone on to have a normal pregnancy after previously suffering miscarriages, then I would love to hear your story.

Thanks.

I dont have any adivice but i wanted to say I hope you go on to have a beautiful little baby. I had a MMC in December 07 and you must be a strong women to cope with all your losses xxx

I'm starting on the heparin tomorrow for a history of clotting. I haven't had any m/cs so can't really answer your question, but just wanted to send you a  and wish you all the best with this pregnancy!!!!!

Thanks ladies!

petitpas, why are you starting heparin at 10 weeks? I always thought it was supposed to be started early on.

Are your's going to be injections as well?

Yup,
I'm on low (preventative) dose heparin. I had a bit of a battle to get started on it. GP said he didn't think I was at risk until later, then the haematologist's secretary kept moving my appointment back and forth. Finally, I saw him and then yesterday the DVT nurse who explained that recent research shows that the risk of clotting is elevated throughout the whole pregnancy and that there is even a small spike at the beginning. We were talking about my clots here, not the baby's. I will find out more about that next Wednesday when I see the obstetrician.
