Called my OB's office this morning to finally make the first appointment for my pregnancy. I've been procrastinating because I am TERRIFIED to get my first u/s.

Apparently my OB is no longer an OB. He isn't taking any new OB patients anymore, he's just doing GYN. So now I have to get a new doctor! I'm so stressed out. I've been crying all morning. (Damn hormones.)

I loved my OB. He's an amazing doctor. And to have to start all over with someone new...someone who wasn't there for my MMC, who has no idea how scared I am...I'm devastated.

I've called around for another doctor, and it seems many of the long-time beloved doctors in my area are retiring so there are a bunch of new doctors. I don't want someone new. I want someone who knows what they're doing. ESPECIALLY for this PAL.

Any words of advice? Comfort? Empathy? I just don't know what to do now. Spend the rest of my day researching doctors I suppose. I'm just very upset at the world today.

Sorry your OB is no longer practicing obstetrics. It can be hard to find a doctor with whom you have a good rapport, especially when dealing with a previous miscarriage.

I'm not thrilled with my doctor, and have a second one on the side, and have an appointment with a third. I am going to doctor shop until I feel comfortable. I think my miscarriage was a big deal, and I don't like the prevailing attitude that until you have 3 or more there's nothing they will do.

Ok, I meant to give words of comfort and empathy, and advice. Maybe you could ask the previous doctor's office for a referral? When trying to find a new doctor, talk to the practice manager, explain your history, and ask for a consult with the doctor in his or her office. Not sure about you, but I don't want to meet the doctor for the first time in stirrups!

Take a deep breath, I'm sure your pregnancy will go well and you'll find another doctor you love.
