Hi there. Im having to go to have an ERPC tomorrow after my baby had stopped growing.
Im slightly nervous about it all just hope it goes ok. i have read I may bleed for a few day after but will it be heavy or painful??
My husband and I are desperate to try again as soon as possible, the nurse said to wait till I have a period then I can start trying. This may sound silly but if I bleed after the op for a while how will I know what is period and what is just post op bleeding???
Will i need to do a preg test after the op to check my hormone levels as well before we start trying???
Just a little confused about it all, any advise would be helpful!
Really hope it all goes ok! Have been ok emotionally just seem to be feeling very low about myself and started crying about how I hate my hair yesterday!!! Will the emotions all come out soon - I think Im dealing with it really well just don't want to go into some kind of state of depression!!!

I'm really sorry for your loss.

I bled for around 8 days on and off after my ERPC 25 days ago. The first few hours immediately after the op I bled like a medium period and had moderate cramps that were controlled my paracetamol. It then tailed off to light to spotting to brown. I did 2 HPTs 1 and 2 weeks after the op to check my hcg levels were down so that when we started TTC again we would know for sure if it was a new pregnancy. Both tests were strongly positive and I went back to my GP who advised bloods a week apart to check the levels were dropping. Last Monday they were at 40 and I'll ring for the new results tomorrow. I had new pain about a week after the op and went back onto antibiotics as the doc thought there was a tiny bit of retained tissue hence the raised hcg. She also advised waiting for a proper period before trying again due to these issues. I think it can be counted as a proper period if it comes around 20 days after the last day of bleeding you have post-op - this means your body has gone through the normal hormone changes - don't quote me on this though!

I hope it all goes well for you tomorrow.

Hey kirstylm, really sorry to hear about your news.
I had an EPRC back in March.

Directly after the operation I bled for a day pretty heavily, and then like climbing girl, I had like bleeding/spotting for 8 days afterwards.

It took a fortnight for me to get a negative on a HPT.

You should stop bleeding between having your ERPC and having your next period- so it should be obvious which is which.

My next period came 5 weeks after my EPRC, and was generally lighter than other periods I have had. We didn't wait to start TTC again, but as of yet (2 periods later), we haven't fallen PG yet.

My second period was heavier than normal, so I'm presuming my lining is fresh and healthy this month!

Just to warn you, I thought I was 'coping' brilliantly!! Until each period came, and then I bawl my eyes out. It's great that you're doing well, but remember that you don't have to be strong, and that it's ok to grieve.

If you want to PM feel free.

Thoughts are with you hun, and hope all goes ok tomorrow x x x x

Hi hun. Thinking of you and sending big hugs. I'm so soryy that you're going through this. I have had two miscarriages. The first one, I had a d&c. The second one, I was sent home to miscarry naturally which took a week from finding out.

After the d&c I was an emotional wreck, the pain that I had experienced only added to it. I was taking a heavy dose tylenol and advil. Since I had nothing to compare this pain to, I realised a week later that fainting and passing large silver coloured clots is not typical. I had an infection due to having retained products of conception left in my uterus after the surgery. Chances are this won't happen to you, but if you are experiencing any of the following please head back to the doctor:

Points To Remember After D&C
•To prevent bacteria from entering the cervix following D&C, you should refrain from sexual intercourse, tampon use, and douches for at least a week.
•Showering, bathing, or swimming is permitted as soon as you feel well enough.
•Notify your doctor if fever, abdominal pain, heavy bleeding, or a vaginal discharge with a bad odor occur.
•Make sure you follow up with your doctor as recommended after the surgery.
Complications of Dilation and Curettage
As with any surgical procedure it's important for you to understand any possible complications or risks. Although complications with D&C are rare they can include:
•A perforation of the uterine wall caused by the tip of the surgical instrument. This injury rarely requires treatment (additional surgery) and heals on its own.
•Excessive bleeding is always a risk during surgery.
•Another rare complication is infection with pain and fever.

During the suregery you are not awake, you will wake in recovery and possibly be a bit drowsy. (anesthetic has the opposite effect on me, I wake up and am quite hyper) You will have what I can only explain as extreme period type pain (but when taking pain meds you should be fine). I also remember my tailbone was quite sore? I hope your healing starts soon after your surgery hun. My period returned thirty days after the surgery. The doctor should also be following up with bloodwork to track your levels back down to below five.

Sending you big hugs hun. xox I'll be thinking of you over the next few days.

Thanks everyone for your great advise. I will take this all in and look out for myself. I just hope I can keep it together after the operation.
Hope your all doing ok now xxxx

so sorry to hear that you have lost your baby hunni. i'll try and answer your questions going by me experience but everyone is different.

i bled for 8 days it was like a period though slighty heavier i didnt have any pain though my stomach felt tender to the touch for a few days.

you will know what is your period and what isnt. you need to have 21 days free of bleeding for any other bleeding to be classed as an af. so for me i had 8 days of bleeding and exactly 21 days after the bleeding stopped i got my af.

i wasnt told to do a pregnancy test to check but did anyways some doctors may advise you to (they did with my natural misscarriage) some may not.

you may feel down for a few days or even a couple of weeks til the hormones settle i was extremely weepy afterwards. it does get better in time.

 i really hope it goes as well as it can hunni x
