hcg high enoughfor +hpt

hi i dont know if this is the right place to ask ,and if not i am sorry.

i had my m/c 6 weeks ago the baby died at 6-7 weeks but i was 11 weeks before i started to bleed. well last week i started to feel sick and have sore boobs so i took a pregnancy test which has come up positive, bu am i pregnant again or could there be enough hcg in my body from my m/c to give me a false positive. i spoke to the dr he says not sure but sounds like i am pregnant, but there is no way of telling and to just assume i am and wait for a scan, well i am going to go out of my mind not knowing for sure , and am to scared to get excited.
has anyone else had this happen or can offer any words of wisdom

There's no way of knowing for sure, button. Did you have a natural mc or did you have a d&c or similar? I only ask because a d&c (or evac) will literally the day one for falling hcg in your body. Have you had a scan and gotten an all clear since your mc?

There's no way for me or anyone else knowing without checking you inside and out whether you are pg again im afraid. However, getting pg again so soon is by no means unheard of, and i do hope its more likely than not. I do think im my own humble opinion that having hcg in your system 6 weeks after a mc would be the exception rather than the rule.

ps, just wanted to add when i had my mmc last time, i had a d&c and a week after i had a negatibe hpt, so there's every hope you are lucky sweetie, chin up, ok! xxx

No way....if you'd miscarried at 6/7 weeks pregnant and that was 6wks ago, the positive test you have now is coz you're up the duff babe

i hope your right , i had a natural m/c and they never scanned me after or checked my levels of hcg.
i am leaning towards thinking i am cos the reason i did the test was cos i felt sick and was having exact same symptoms as last time.

I was told that once you m/c, or start to m/c, the Hcg drops dramatically, and should be down to 5 or less in about a week or less. Therefore, from what my DR told me, and what your DR is telling you, I would say that you are pregnant. Congratulations!

I m/c at 6+4 and my HPT was completely negative a week later.

well i have spoken to 2 dr one says i am more than likely pregnant and the other says no way and that it is the hormones left over from my m/c , and that hcg level testing does not prove anything so, i rang the early pregnancy unit at my hospital to see if they can help they are gonna get a dr to call me , i feel so confused and this is really upsetting me, i dont want to just wait and see if i start showing in 3 months .what sort of care is that. x

Well, in my local hospital I have been told I am not entitled to an early scan next time, even though I have miscarried this time, BUT if I happen to fall pg again before my next period, then they will have to scan me to date me.

So I would be spinning a wee yarn to the EPU about having had negative tests, then getting positives, so you can get a dating scan...then you'll see for sure.

Medically the maximum length of time it takes for your hcg to go back to below 5 is 30 days. Most do it within a week. I would say you are defo pregnant hun Congrats and I hope you have a sticky one xxx

well i hope you are all correct, i rang the epau and told them what had happened , i think the receptionist felt sorry for me cos she has booked me in for a scan on tuesday to find out what is going on, so should know something for sure next week,so i have everything crossed , but also trying really hard not to get my hopes up,will keep you all posted.

when I had a mc at 8 weeks, i needed to have a D&C and my doctor tracked my hcg after that (I did a blood test every 2 weeks). It took about 6 weeks after the D&C for my body to get rid of the pg hormone... but of course, each case is different. I hope you're pg again!!! lost of

I would try not to get your hopes hun, because if you aren't it will be a doubly hard pill to swallow on the back of what you have already been through. It took me 4 and a half weeks from my first bleed to my hcg to fall from 550 ish to 2, I didn't go back in for another test we presumed it would hit zero in the next few days. I think you should call the EPAU and try to go for a scan or ask your doctor to do blood tests to see if hcg is rising or falling. You need to know for your own peace of mind and to know what to eat /drink etc as well. I really hope you are and I think you have a really good chance, but I would hate for you to get your hopes up if it's not the case

I agree with Lazy Leo. Most likely you are pregnant, but some people do take longer for their hcg levels to drop (my friend took 8 weeks to drop to 0). Only way to be sure is a scan or 2 blood tests to see if hcg is climbing or dropping. Hope the scan goes well... fx for you

yeh i know your right and i am trying not to get my hopes up, its just weird how all my pg symptoms are back e.g feeling sick, tired, crampy pains (i get loads of these when pg)so that makes it hard for me not to get them up a bit and a test this morning was just as strong a bfp as last tuesday, anyway have a scan tuesday so hopefully will find out one way or the other.
