Hi . I really need some advice. This is my second pregnancy (My daughter will be 9 Months on the 9th) and I am measuring around 5-6 weeks. I had an xray 4 weeks ago on my chest and lungs for a fractured rib. (I obviously didn't know i was pregnant). I had some light bleeding 2 weeks ago.

My HCG levels are increasing , but not a lot.

My doctors don't seem to be very optimistic. I had an ultrasound on the 29th that showed the Sac measuring 5 weeks 1 day. Thats it, no heartbeat.

Is there pretty much no hope here?

Thanks for taking the time to help me understand this a little bit i'm just so sad.

Your HCG levels are high considering how far gone you are, which is a good thing. I would not expect to be able to see a HB at 5+1. For me it seems that it is not conclusive either way. I really hope that all goes well for you x

I remember reading that as your hcg numbers get higher they double at a much slower rate.

wishing you the best.

Based on what you have said I would say it is inconclusive - have you got another scan booked - usually by 7 weeks they should be able to see a heartbeat. The fact that you have only had light bleeding is also a good sign as usually bleeding is quite heavy and often with clots if things are going wrong.

Wait for your next scan and hopefully you will see a flickering heartbeat. There is definitely still hope even with slowly rising hcg levels - they are at high levels now so will double more slowly and they are still increasing rather than decreasing. The other possibility is that you have a disappearing twin. Hang in there and let us know what happens. Will be thinking of you.
