A bird.....:dohh:

Not any old bird mind....a parrot!

Uhmmm ok, how do I explain to my 14 year old that he cannot have a parrot for xmas?

Help!

Dont get one!!!!

My sisters got an african grey and its ate her curtains, table and chairs, couch, it craps everywhere even when its in the cage! Its cost a fortune for new cages which take up half the living room and her husband wont leave it at home alone incase it get lonely!!! So cos they live miles away from us all they bring it with them when they come to visit!!

Oh and then it wakes everyone up at 6am!

Has that put you off enough:rofl:

Don't be a meanie Jac,buy him a parrot ;)

Tell him santa doesn't deliver live stock..Mind you being 14 he's probably gotten wise to the whole "Santa buys the present's thing" :dohh:

Jac what about this instead.

We had one when I was PG with Leo. OMG it hated me!

It woulkd dive at me when I passed the cage...mind I did used to tease it with the hoover pipe

We had to get rid as it screached all day and drove me barmy. It used to shout 'crappy cow' at me too

I'm sorry jac but  sounds like parrots have it in for you. Perhaps you chould develop a sudden feather allergy

There's a website for the parrot sanctuary near Skegness it explains on there why parrots don't make good pets and why you shouldn't really keep one as a pet. Maybe you could show him the site. I know about this place as we, sadly, left our parrot with them, basically in the wild they're never on their own, and no matter how much time you spend with them it's never enough.
Hope that's some help, kids eh, they're a nightmare but you've gotta love em. Xxx

Ps all the behaviour problems people have with parrots are because they don't like being alone. Good luck xxx

Maybe suggest a budgie or a pair of love birds? Waaaay less hassle, and just as fun if you ask me!

Dan met someone who was giving up their herd of parrots. I never wanted one but knew Dan did for quite awhile. He got two...a macaw and a cockatoo. :dohh::dohh:

Now the macaw is pretty cool ... the cockatoo is evil.

But here's all the negatives...

Messy, messy, messy
Eat a lot
Craps a lot
Wrecks things
Macaw can get out of his cage
Very noisy at times
Must have a lot of time out of it's cage

But the biggest thing is they need a lot of attention. I feel for ours as we just don't have time for them.

Sadly, many owners of parrots can't handle them and don't want them after a number of years and parrots live a long, long time.

You should hear my house at times, especially when someone comes to the door. Our puppy barks at everything, which gets our boxer dog barking, which then gets our parrots screeching and then it gets Chase crying. Try and answer the door when all this noise is going on. It's embarrassing.

Our macaw has a bit of a potty mouth too. Amanda went up to it for the first time after getting the birds and the macaw kept telling her to f**k off.

My daughter has had that for a few years. Should have just given it to Dan instead. haha
