Oh, god no- they live FOREVER.

Maybe you could say something about how you're allergic? :haha:

 the presents they ask for get more and more bizzare each year then?

my sister (7yrs older than me) had a parrot and it never said a good word - her BF at the time taught it to swear and no matter how hard you tried to get it to say polite stuff it wouldnt.

and as others have said it took up loads of space, cost a fortune and it pulled all its feathers out as she had to leave it on its own when she went to work. luckily it survived when she took it to 1 of the animal shelters who had large outdoor averies and other parrots.

Dont get one!!!!

My sisters got an african grey and its ate her curtains, table and chairs, couch, it craps everywhere even when its in the cage! Its cost a fortune for new cages which take up half the living room and her husband wont leave it at home alone incase it get lonely!!! So cos they live miles away from us all they bring it with them when they come to visit!!

Oh and then it wakes everyone up at 6am!

Has that put you off enough:rofl:

We had one when I was PG with Leo. OMG it hated me!

It woulkd dive at me when I passed the cage...mind I did used to tease it with the hoover pipe

We had to get rid as it screached all day and drove me barmy. It used to shout 'crappy cow' at me too

You should hear my house at times, especially when someone comes to the door. Our puppy barks at everything, which gets our boxer dog barking, which then gets our parrots screeching and then it gets Chase crying. Try and answer the door when all this noise is going on. It's embarrassing.

Our macaw has a bit of a potty mouth too. Amanda went up to it for the first time after getting the birds and the macaw kept telling her to f**k off.

My sisters shouts ITTTTSSSS FINIIIIISHED every time it hears a beep! She got it from the timer on the oven so if my sister is upstairs and the timer goes she lets my sister know lol but now she does it if the phone goes or they get a text message. And its started sayin alrite and cyaaaa in a scouse accent! Its only still young so learning new words all the time

But my bil wont allow anyone to teach it to swear cos its the kids. Thats the only reason i would get one, to teach it loads of swear words like the ones on youtube lol

What about a Senegal Parrot they are about the size of a cockateil and are so cute. https://www.parrotparrot.com/species-guides/senegal-parrots/

If you really are totally against it just tell him that as he will be moving out in a few years its best if he waits till then as you don't want to be stuck with it when he moves out.

I really don't recommend a Senegal.. they can be a totally nightmare.

However this totally reminds me of when I was a child... I wanted a bird when I was 11! I did actually get budgies that year, but wouldn't really recommend it if you like a tidy house they can be messy buggers.

I had a conure which I recently had to rehome as it took a dislike to everyone apart from me. (OH got the brunt of it.. the bird gave him the evils haha) All mid-size to large birds want a lot of attention and need letting out on daily basis. (As well as being messy, it used to chuck my dog food from its cage like some sort of pact!)

So presuming he is at school most of the time, maybe it is just a phase that will pass? If it isn't and you can deal with a small bird.. try budgies or something of a similar size. (Generally a pair will stop them getting lonely during the day)

Just tell him no way---> explain a parrot is a pet for life lol and he has to be 18 before he gets one
