Ds hasn't been himself for a couple of days now. Been refusing his food only eating a quarter of anything he is given. Not drinking as much as usual either. Still pooing n weeing though so just figured it was down to being 3 and trying to get his own way.

Yesterday he was misbehaving all day. And I dont mean the odd thing I mean EVERYTHING! By 4pm his eyes were bright red and he looked so tired and would cry over anything you said to him good or bad (and he doesnt cry) I took him to bed at 6 and he was asleep by 6.30 (norm take him up at 6.30 asleep by 7)

At 6am today I woke to him opening and closing his bedroom door  I went in and asked him whats wrong its the middle of the night (he gets up at 8 so 6 is very, very early) He told me his head hurts and he needed calpol. At first I said go back to sleep and it will go, but after leaving he just laid their whining and moaning so I went back in and gave him calpol. He continued whining and just laid in his bed with his eyes open till 7.45!! Didnt go back to sleep, just laid there?????

Very very strange. I checked his temp n only 37.2c so not high. His tonsils are large and look a bit yellowy (we have app booked for ENT as has been getting tonsilitus since a baby) but its this headache thats mostly got me concerned??? It was so bad it woke him in the night and even with calpol he couldnt get back to sleep. I have kept him off school today to monitor him, I havent called the dr as I'm not sure if it warents it?

I read that if a headache is bad enough to wake a child you should see a doctor, but then I have also read not to ring doctor unless been going on for a few days??

His eyes are already red again as guessing hes tired still. Has anyone had experience with headaches???

Hello!

That sounds like a rough couple of days. :( I think a call to the doctor makes sense, but as far as the attitude change goes, I think that's probably just the beautiful world of 3 year olds. :haha:

For the headache, that could be dehydration. OR, if his tonsils are swollen, maybe his sinuses are also blocked up and he's headachey.

I hope he's better really soon!

I agree it's most likely a headache caused by dehydration which also explains the behaviour. My dd can get up to all sorts when she isn't eating or drinking well and isn't sleeping great. Most likely the tonsils have put him off his food and drink so have kept made him cranky and dehydrated so he isn't sleeping so is even more cranky and overtired . Plenty cuddles, small. snacks and sips if fluids or ice poles to get fluids in. Hopefully he is better soon xxx
