So ladies, I heard my LO heartbeat for the first time today :) It was beautiful!!!

So heart rate was 139 which according to the old wives tales means boy (I pretty much feel he is a boy anyway!!). Does anyone remember what the heart rate was when you went for your midwife appt - and if the old wives tale rang true for you? did your heart beat match up with your LO's gender?

:happydance:

For me this tale did not ring true - baby's heartbeat was 154,150,152 and so on, and it turned out to be a boy!

Hope you get what you want either way :)

Im team yellow but hoping for a girl (and convinced its a girl). Heartrate at 16 weeks was 155-160 so fingers crossed this old wives tale works! lol x

didn't ring true for us either. bubs has been 150-160 every visit and we're team blue.

I've found this old wives tale to be the most inaccurate tbh. My little boys was on the higher scale, which suggests girl.

My last midwife appointment before I had ds the midwife made a comment of "your baby is quite small and from the heart rate I would say a girl!" less than 2 weeks later out came our beautiful ds weighing 8lb 4!! Not exactly a small girl

I thought boys were suppose to have the higher heart rate?

Haha - so maybe not confirming my suspicions!! Anyone had a heart rate on the lower end and it been a girl? x

This wives tale is a load of bologna in my book! My baby's heartbeat has always been 150s and up and he's a boy!

I have no idea but at 12 week scan hb was 171 and at midwife last week was in the 160's but it moved and she said she'd do it again next time!

I thought boys were suppose to have the higher heart rate?

for some reason those old wives thought that a heart rate higher than 140 was a girl and lower than 140 was a boy. it's always been the opposite for me tho. maybe they meant it to be the other way around but someone made a typo when they put it in print :haha:

I prob read it wrong! Hoping to hear my little ones on thurs at my next midwife appointment :)

It was right for us, dd hb was always 160 or above.
This little ones hb has been the same so far so assumed another girl, but definitely saw little boy bits at 20wk scan!

This has been pretty much 100% disproven. :(
The only theories that have stood the test of time are the skull and nub theories.

It does hold true for some people, but it means nothing. The heart rate is more dependent upon gestational age, mom's activity and anxiety or state of relaxation, and baby's activity. Even if baby is completely still, he or she may have just discovered they can wiggle their fingers, and this excites them and speeds up their heart rate...it doesn't mean it's one gender or another. :)

It was wrong for me hun I'm afraid! I was CONVINCED I was having a girl by all the old wives tales - horrendous morning (well all day) sickness, high heart rate each time and then went for the scan and I am definitely having a boy!!

It did for us. My Midwife said that a boy's heart beat is said to sound like a train on the doppler. A girl's sounds like a galloping horse.

We heard a galloping horse at 16 weeks and last week saw the all conclusive burger shot! :cloud9: xx
