Heavy periods - what's NOT normal?

I have always had very heavy periods - even before having my 2 children. I always bled a lot and had excruciating cramps. I remember there were times in high school I would have to go home because of it or not go to school. The pain is in my legs and abdomen mainly and the first day is the worst. I have periods that last anywhere from 3-7 days. Normally they are 5 days long.

Since having my children my periods have been off whack. It took 2 years after having my first before they were somewhat normal and then a year later I got pregnant with my son. Now they're all over the map again. Some times it's on time, other times a few weeks late, or even a month or more late. That part doesn't bother me. What bothers me is since my son my periods have been 10x more heavy.

My first period after having him was so bad that I woke up in a puddle of my own blood. It soaked through all of my blankets onto my mattress. When I stood up it rushed out of me and was literally falling out of me. It dripped all over the floor and made a pathway to the bathroom. When I sat on the toilet it just gushed out of me and was everywhere. When my EX came into the bathroom he almost passed out. It was on my feet, the floor, all over the toilet, and it was just coming and coming.

I got into the shower and stood in there for about 20 minutes and HUGE clots were coming out of me and blood still virtually pouring out of me. I went to the gyno that day and he did a pap/pelvic exam and said he figured it was my hormones off track and to come back in the following day for some hormone pills if I was still bleeding as heavy as I was. But it had slowed down (still heavy but not leaking out of me heavy) so I didn't go back. Since then I have saw my gyno a few times. Once when I had a yeast infection and then another time for my annual pap. Everything is normal but he does suspect I have Endomitriosis because of a lump I have under my c-section scar. I also have Polycystic Ovaries too.

My periods are still heavy and I pass tons of clots every cycle. Some big, some medium, some small. Mainly they are small-medium sized. And my periods have become more painful too. Instead of the first day of my cycle being horrible it lasts a full 5 days where I cramp so bad that I have almost gone to the ER. It physically cripples me. I have to take 3-4 advil to even touch the pain.

So what is normal and what is not normal? My mom has the same types of periods as me - even worse. She bleeds EXTREMELY heavy and has horrific cramps. She's just kind of pushed it to the side because she has always had periods like this since a kid. Is there anyone else who's experienced the same? Dreadfully painful/heavy periods? Is this NORMAL?

Thanks for reading. :flower:

That's not normal. I would consider that close to hemorrhage. My grandmother had periods like this. Not normal. See if they can diagnose the endometriosis. Birth control hormones can help lessen the bleeding.
