Firstly, she's happy and putting on weight (so not worried on that front) BUT I have to put on a plastic backed bib AND one of the tommee tippee dribble bibs per feed. And she's still soaking through a muslin at the same time too!!! It's driving me bonkers
She's been like it since birth and is 8 weeks now. I did increase the teat flow at 4 weeks but went back to 'newborn' to reduce the flow cause I thought she couldn't cope. I have Avent and tommee tippee bottles. And I make sure she's well winded.... any suggestions why she's dribbling iso much milk out of her mouth ...please???

mmm - not sure about this one.

Anna is our first baby- she is almost 7 weeks.

We are using the tommee tippee bottles and size 1 teats and get hardly any dribbles at all and Anna empties her bottles too. I am very surprised as I assumed feeding would be very messy!! I did try putting her up to size 2 but it was too fast for her.

At the moment we are giving her 5oz bottles. I aim to wind her 3 times during the feed - so maybe at 3.5oz left, 2.5oz left, 1oz left and then when she is finished - hope that makes sense.
:flower:

Andrew still dribbles milk out of his mouth, even now. We've progressed up teat sizes as he's got older (and frustrated with the speed). He doesn't have a cold, so it's not that he's trying to breathe. I think he's just too lazy to close his mouth round the teat properly!

Some babies dribble more than others - usually it's a sign that the teat is too fast, but if you're using the first size that isn't much help! You could try a variflow on the TT bottle to see if that helps. Just be careful with cleaning and checking them if you do - they split more easily than the other types!

You could also try a different position for feeding - maybe sit her up more?

Isabel did this as well from birth, loads use to dribble out. 1st we thought it was the bottles so swapped from tommee tippee to avent which did improve it a little but not much, we also tried dr brown and mam ones but stayed the same. We just came to the conclusion that it was just the way Isabel fed and that nothing would change it really. She did improve with age, shes 6 months now and hardly dribbles. When we looked at her feeding it looked like she didnt open her mouth wide enough to seal teat properly but nothing we could do changed it, that was just the way she was.

Can only say it will get better with age, i know its frustrating cos we use to see people feeding their babies even without a bib with no mess at all - evryones different but i sympathise with you.

I think they suck strongly & get more milk than they can swallow. My Lo is the opposite, he's too lazy to suck & expects the milk to come out by it self. I had to move to size 2 when he was 4 wks, & until now I have to pull the bottle frm his mouth to check if the teat is blocked as he takes forever to finish his bottle. I use TT CTN bottles

The only advantage is he's always clean when he's feeding :D

omg morgan did the same !!!!!!!! with TT bottles aswell, he stil does it, but hes massive for his age, as long as shes putting weight on etc i wudnt worry.........wonder y they do it !??!

i was reading that and thought it was about Mya lol,

we put a normal bib on then the TT dribble bib and a muslin and the muslin is soaked and so id the dribble bit and the one under that is slightly wet. We go through amazing amounts of clothes in one day........good thing we got tones of clothes as gifts lol

we tried vary flow slow flow everything but nothing makes a drifference, she sucks VERY VERY hard and inverts the teat sometimes which can cause more milk to rush out.

But she's putting on weight so thats the main thing, if you find a solution please pm me lol x

If you're using TT bottles and the teats are inverting, have you checked that the valve isnt stuck shut? You have to open it when you get a new teat and every now and then. Basically you just squeeze the valve with your fingers and make sure it opens. I was having no end of problems till DH sorted it out :dohh:

If the valve is stuck they will have to suck really really hard to get their milk.

we have the same problem, started off with the tommee tippee bottles and every feed involved poor melody getting soaked. tried avent and still had the same problem! we invested in some dr browns bottles to help with wind too and although she still dribbles a little on her face it's not half as bad, she isn't soaked through like before. there is clearly less flow on the dr brown bottles if you hold them upside down the milk doesn't poor out like the other brands we tried. x x

Rosalie does this too but i think its just cause she cant be bothered closing her mouth round the teet so i take the bottle back for a few seconds and then she starts to take it properly!

xx
