Ladies. Have any of your little ones had a chest infection? If yes how long did your baby take to get better.

My now 4 month old got a chesty cough 6 weeks ago. I'd been to the doctor a few times but last week it changed. Dd was wheezing and coughing up pleghm so we got some antibiotics from the doc.

We've just finished the course of antibiotics and whilst Dd is coughing less with no pleghm that i csn see she seems wheezier and more raspy.

We go back to the doctors tomorrow.

In the meantime I need reassurance. We are heading into winter (it's minus two outside). (We wrap up warm).
I'm just so worried that Dd can't shake this.
Have your little ones had one? How long did it take for them go get better?

They can take an awful long time to shake off, the wheeze and cough can linger for months :( Also, sometimes it's caused by viruses rather than bacteria so often antibiotics don't help a lot.
Just keep a close eye on her, look out for any dipping under the ribs or in the throat which would indicate she's struggling, aswell as rapid, shallow breathing. Hope she's better soon x

Thanks Loraloo. I will do. She seems quite happy otherwise. I'm just so worried because she's so small.

Awful to see them like that, poor love X

I just second what lora says hun.
It can take weeks for them to shake the wheeze and cough to dissapear. After my little one came home from hospital (we had 3 weeks in ICU due to bronch/rsv) it took weeks and weeks for him to get rid of the cough and wheeze properly, we were back and forth because some days were worse than others.

Look out for the red flags of respitory distress
- centre of the chest dipping in
- sucking in around the ribs
- Sucking in at the base of the throat

- Nasal Flaring with each breath
- A very fast respitory Rate (should be between 30-60 per minute at her age. Count for 30 seconds then double it)
- Any pauses in her breathing, especially those which last longer than 2/3 seconds
- any blue tinges to the lips or fingers.

If any of these bottom ones happen get medical attention as quick as possible.

Thanks Sethsmummy. I hope your little one is better now.

So my 4 month old had an x-ray and she has a partially deflated lung. We have to go to the doctors each week for it to be monitored.

My eldest came up with a rash yesterday. I had a stressful night worrying that it is measles or chicken pox. Luckily it's neither but the poor girl is so sick.

Thank you spud. He's had more than his fair share of ups and downs bless him
But he's a fighter and gets through it all. We just have to act quick if he gets a bad cough as he goes from
Bronch to pneumonia quickly.

Sorry to hear her lung is partially deflated. I know your going to the gp every week but if your ever worried don't be afraid to go straight to hospital. They will see you very quickly because of it. Rohan had a lung collapse while
In icu so I know how scary it is so I want to send you massive hugs :hugs: I hope your eldest is feeling better soon. ❤️❤️❤️
