my bubba is 5 weeks old she drinks well but lately has been sick quite a bit, during and after most feeds she will be sick, when she burps and after.

its what i would consider more than the normal spit up. she is getting some though as her head is not sunken and we are getting normal nappies.

3 questions,

1 why do you think she is doing this?

2 should i just keep going with the bottle until she doesn't want anymore, somethimes we are going through 7-8 oz per feed because she sicks most of it up

3 would u change her milk she is currently on SMA gold

thank u x

Heya :)
Is it bothering her much? She's probably just a sicky baby but if u consider it more then just the occasionaly pukey then id ring ur GP/Health visitor, they might tell u to change ur milk. SMA is quite a heavy milk, maybe try APTIMAL as its easier on the tum?
Also my little one has started infant gaviscon and it has reduced his sickies loads.

Maybe she is taking it too quick for her tum to handle? Maybe u need to change the teats to a slower ones...

Its difficult to pin point it isnt it! xx

It not just me!!! My bubba has been doing this the last few weeks as well. He was on SMA as well, we've tried Aptamil and Aptamil comfort milk and neither made any difference so I've put him back on SMA.

I don't really have any advice because nothing has made it any better so far. My GP said that it wasn't a problem if his was still gaining weight and the HV said the same thing and that the different formula brands are very similar so changing milk probably won't help. Maybe this is just the way he is and it will get better as he gets older. It's driving me crazy though constantly changing Moses and pram sheets, washing his face and neck all day and changing clothes.

i too have tried aptamil and no change, it is really fustrating changing everything and she is getting a rash on her neck where the sick runs down. people have suggested SMA staydown but its a bit of a nightmare to make up by all accounts. she is on the slowest teats i just dont know what else to try !!

Have you tried Cow & Gate?
I would try her on a new milk, but buy the cartoons so not wasting money on tins, see how she gets on, if still the same, then change bottles/teats etc and speak to HV xxx

my LO was like this in the early weeks, midwife said some babies can be sicky because they havent quite worked out what feeling full is yet. so they take too much and then bring back whatever's not needed. she told us to change him before a feed, even if he was really hungry, just to save laying him down right after the feed. she said also keep LO as upright as possible for a while after the feed like in the bouncer chair. she said to give the feed and once you get to say 4-5 oz, have a little rest and pop a dummy in (if your baby has one) because it can take them a while to register they are full. then if after 5 mins they are still hungry, go 1 oz at a time.

i know its a worry if you feel they arent getting anything, one day we worried ourselves cos he was vomiting and we kept trying to replace what he had lost, and we rand the MW at crisis point. when the midwife came she explained we werent replacing what was lost we were replacing what his body didnt want so creating a vicious cycle.

so give these things a go, and as tinkabells said, try a couple of ready made formula cartons/new teats.

and if youre getting wet and dirty nappies, somethings going in!

Ye your LO has either taken too much (some babies dont now when they are full) or its reflux. The muscle at the top of the stomach that stops our food coming back up doesnt close in babies for quite a few months so when they burp, lie down etc the milk comes up really easy. My eldest was sick after each feed and i mean loads! He ended up getting baby gaviscon in his bottles and it sorted him out straight away. As long as your LO is putting on weight then they are getting enough milk.
