Anyone have suggestions for how to hide a pregnancy from friends at a wedding this weekend? I'm not a crazy boozer or anything, but would never be one to turn down a glass of champagne or 2 at a wedding. How can I pretend to still drink :wine: or:beer:?
DH and I are trying to think of a plan, but afraid I'll get caught.
I'm not ready to share the news yet- tomorrow will be 5 weeks.

I always thought the best excuse could be that you're on a new allergy medicine (or just say medication) that you can't drink with.
Or claim you partied hard the night before and are hung over? (would explain any MS that came up? lol) but that only works if you don't go out with the others the night before.

Carry a glass around and let dh take a few drinks every once in a while so it appears you're drinking it? lol I don't know, that's the best I've got! Good Luck!

ooh, I like the husband/decoy idea... have him ask for sparkling cider instead of champagne etc.. let him pretend he's got a medication issue or is staying sober to drive.. then secretly switch drinks with him so nobody even suspects!! :haha:
Also can order drinks that LOOK alcoholic... like apple juice and say its whisky? virgin drinks?

I really hadn't thought of this one before! Huh!
I quite frequently opt to drive, so it wouldn't be suspicious for me to use that. Would that work for you? Otherwise my friend completely fooled me by saying she had recently had an ear infection and was on meds for it :dohh: can't believe I fell for it!!

Thanks all. Unfortunately there is no where to drive as the wedding is where we're staying. I think I'll try a combination of switching drinks w/ hubby and getting some "vodka tonics" aka 7up with a lime.

I have the same problem, we have a wedding reception tonight, we're going with OH's sisters who will think it's very odd that I'm not drinking. I can't drive so can't use that excuse and everytime we go out we always order in rounds so they will know I am ordering soft drinks. I see/speak to them most days so they would know if I was on medication.

I think I'm just going to say I have ate something that doesn't agree with me and don't feel like drinking, but I know they will keep pushing me to have one.

i need to hide mine this weekend also for my brothers 21st, dad rung last night asking what drinks i wanted i told him what all the girls would drink so he has got lots, i think i am just going to say i drunk to much the night before and the thought of alcohol makes me want to vomit, or something like that i cant say medication because then my mum will give me a big lecture about not having sex because my pill wont work..

haha not looking foward to this i have not seen them since we found out a week ago, i hope they dont suspect anything..

good luck hun im sure you will figure something out:)

I'm seeing some close friends for lunch on Sunday. Problem is I haven't been able to eat a proper meal in weeks. Most food makes me want to vomit. We want to wait until at least our scan a week today to tell anyone other than family, so it's going to be difficult, especially as they know we're TTC. Not sure how to avoid the conversation turning to how we're getting on with our baby making and why I'm not eating much. Any ideas?! x

Last wk end I made the excuse that I had drunk too much on the night before and didn't really feel like coming out, but decided to because I didn't want to let my friend down!! I stuck to drinking slimline tonic with ice lol! x

i did this the other day, all i did was hold a glass of champagne and take the tiniest sips. all in all i drank about 5 sips but no one guessed! x

SAY YOUR ON ANTIBIOTICS? CANT DRINK... or just say you dont feel like it :flower:

I'd either say you are on medication which you have to avoid alcohol or order drinks that people wouldn't know if they were alcoholic or not. I'm normally drink vodka with fresh orange but I can easily order a fresh orange and say there is vodka in it and nobody would notice the difference.

When my friend was pregnant at my wedding she was drinking lemonade and lime and telling people they were vodka, lem and lime, no one was any the wiser!

How about your on anti biotics for an infection in your mouth or ear x

You could drink a 'malibu/bacardi/vodka' mixed with diet coke? Obviously just the coke.. but nobody will know ;) xx

Two days after I found out I was pregnant, we were at a friend's wedding & I managed to drink 'G&T' all night (actually lemonade with a lemon slice in it!). Then a week later I was out for dinner with 2 friends. We'd usually share wine so I just said I had a bad bout of cystitis which I didn't want to make worse & drank water with the meal. No one has sussed us yet as far as we know! xxx

As I was quite a drinker, I said I had a slight liver problem and the Dr has recommended that I cut the alcohol out for a few months. I know it sounds rather dramatic, however one of my friends husbands had a 'fatty' liver due to excess drinking, so it was quite belivable...

I have a family party next weekend (OH side) and am dreading it. We already said (before pregnancy) that we would camp over so we could both drink!!
Now not sure how to play it - plus Im just starting getting morning sickness - but in the evenings!! I need a mega good excuse as I know my sister in law will be on to me if I slip up!!aah! Really want to wait to tell people as its so early and worried if its guessed at the party everyone will know :-/ Will be watching this thread!
