Hi ladies,

I need help, badly. I've not been able to get to a doctors this week because they're fully booked on appointments and i'm desperate for something that'll help.

Louis was born 7 weeks ago and i'm still bleeding! ("expect to bleed for up to 6 weeks" my back side) The whole time i've been wearing sanitary towels which has resulted in very itchy, very sore nappy rash. It has been so itchy i've ended up damaging the skin so i'm practicing some serious self-control to not scratch.

I've been airing myself out each day. Cleaning, drying and applying sudocrem daily but it's just getting worse!

I would use tampons but, i'm now so sore, i can't bring myself to use them.

That, along with the still leaking boobs, i'm in hell! (some of you might remember my thread asking for advice about drying up supply)

I don't want to go to A&E about it because I don't feel it classes as an emergency.

Any advice would be very much appreciated as I'm at my wit's end and very uncomfortable.

Help!

can you make an emergency appointment tomorrow morning for the doctors? Think you should get checked if its that uncomfortable for you, thats not nice.

x

I feel your pain I'm using sudocreme already for the pain and im only two weeks in. The only thing I can think of seeing as you put it nappy rash, hadn't really thought of it like that before but guess that's exactly what it is is using a stronger nappy rash cream for which I'd recommend Metanium.. used to work with kids and I'd call it miracle cream, it always cleared every case straight up x

Have you tried cool baths with a few drops of tea tree oil?
You could also try the walk in centre or ask at a pharmacy?

For LOs nappy rash i use metanium & it works pretty instantly!! U can buy itvin most supermarkets etc.
I also used a hair drier on myself afyer a bath to make sure its really dry & changed the pad after an hour not when its 'full'..

Xx

they use metanium in hospitals, for adults as well as kids x

I would say stop using the sudocrem altogether as it's very drying and try using aqueous cream. I used it on my bits when my stitches started healing because they were so itchy. You can buy it in most chemists and supermarkets.

Are you making sure the area is completely dry before you apply sudocream? If not, it traps moisture underneath and makes the situation worse.

You might have a yeast rash (different from thrush inside) and will need topical cream to treat it. Very common.

thank you all for your replies. :)

Bingo, i have aqueous cream in the cupboard due to having cholestasis during pregnancy (obviously pregnancy and children are an itchy business for me, lol) so i'll give that a go, if that doesn't work then i'll try that metanium.

Hopefully one of them will mean i won't need the doctors.

because the redness and soreness has spread to the top end of my bum (just below my bits, iykwim) i didn't think i could be a yeast infection?

That's actually a classic sign of it. It will also start getting 'satellite' spots spreading up your belly and back if you leave it long enough with out treatment. A yeast nappy rash is a skin infection vs a vagina infection, brought and continual dampness is a main cause.

My DD suffered terribly with yeast nappy rashes and it basically was everywhere the nappy touched.

That sounds like a likely diagnosis Chaos (without the spots). What did you do with your daughter to help clear it up?

Had to go get a prescription topical yeast cream for it from the Drs. When its applied you need to make sure the skin is bone dry, cause even trapping the slightest bit of moisture under it will make it 10 times worse. I'd leave her nappy off as much as possible in the day and at night I'd fill her crib with towels and leave her nappy off (not that you'd need that! lol) so to let the air get to it. So keep ya knickers off! ;)

Baking soda baths are good because it helps return the PH on the skin to normal and is also soothing. Not too hot tho or it will dry it out. Don't put any other creams on it as some have ingredients that feed the yeast and make it worse. Try not to wash down there with soaps and such cause that will faff up the PH. You can get special washes for down there that are better suited to it and PH balanced.

Also from your diet you could avoid excessive sugars for a couple weeks as that feeds yeast.

If you're wearing pads, that used to really dry me out and give me rashes too. I switched to a moon cup and that really helped.

It cleared up in about a week for my DD (until the next time!)

my mum said about applying bicarbinate of soda when my skin was dry and i wasn't sure about it, but a soda bath sounds a bit better. How much do you add to a bath?

I think i'll be carrying a towel around with me while i'm at home then for when i'm sitting down :-P

Thank you so much for the advice Chaos. I hope i'll get to the doctors soon to find out for def but until then it's baths and "nappy free time" for me!

Everyone has already gave you really good ideas but I just wanted to ask if you tried sitz baths? It's like a little tub thing that goes in your toilet (not sure what they are called over there?) with warm water and epsom salts. I did this 3-4 times a day and it really helped heal everything and is very soothing! Hope you feel better soon! x
