Google Low GI snacks for loads of recipe ideas, where possible you want to stick to high protein/low carb foods. If you are having carbs try to keep to whole grain as they release sugars more slowly.

Nutella does not spike your blood sugar? I hope that is the case for me once I start testing...would be a great sweet snack every once in a while.

I have my nutritionist appointment tomorrow...but I have been doing nuts, dried fruit, fruit, cheese sticks, eggs, wheat toast with peanut butter. Sugar free jello. From all the stuff I read though, every person is different and you won't really know what snacks are best for you until you try them and then get a blood glucose reading. I have read some people say they can eat ice cream and pizza and pass a test...and others say that a banana throws them off.

Nutella is a low GI snack because its cocoa in nut butter rather than a standard chocolate. I nearly wept when I realised I could have croissants with Nutella. Not all the time obviously but it's a great treat snack to make you feel better without spiking your sugars.

Ryvita with cheese or hummus seems to be good for my levels.
For an alternate dessert I mashed raspberries and mixed with some cream cheese, Greek yog and a little sugar substitute - makes a really tasty mousse like pudding topped with strawbs and blueberries. Had pretty low blood sugar level after!
Am gonna experiment with this ice cream tonight

Just to add on to the very complete list from above... a spoon full of peanut butter. If you like peanut butter, its a nice "sweet" snack to have.

If you're ok with having fruit, have a spoon full of peanut butter with apple. Its delicious. :)

Also, sugar free jello or pudding. I found that the ones you have to actually make vs the ones pre-made are the ones with the type of artificial sugar that does not affect your blood sugar levels.

Oh yes! Apple or Banana with a bit of peanut butter on is amazing.

I also always found if I did want to indulge the best time was lunch as I ran around a lot at work and the activity lowers your sugars so if you have a particular part of the day where you are most active that's when you can enjoy a sandwich or have a bit of chocolate.
