i'm new and so confused so please be patient with me.....

my Oh and I are due our first child in a couple of weeks 3rd April :)

I am trying to get to grips with what we are entitled to and am very disheartened.

Basic info is as follows -

my OH is currently out of work, he is younger than me (23) and spent a lot of time travelling on money he received as compensation years ago. He came home and has struggled to receive wk since.

I have worked ful time since I was 16 and am now 27. I currently worl 35 hours per week, My earnings for last tax yr were 18,835. we live together and rent. I am due to start maternity leave monday.

My OH applied for JSA a couple of months ago and it was declined because he ives with and I work more than 24 hours a week, He was advised to apply for income support but was declined because he lives with me and I earn over 15/16k (not sure which) and so we are currently living off my wage alone which is ok for now (even though it seems very unfair) as i am on full pay but im extremely worried about the forthcoming year.

I was holding out for tax credits being our saviour but I have today done the calculater on HM rev website and i am so disapointed. according to the website not eligible for WRC's as earn over 15k a yr and the CTC's I am only eligible for £153 per month whether I claim on my own or with my OH??
with childbenefit of 80'ish per month this is only going to mean £233 per month to top up my wage which will decrease by about £600 per month in 16 weeks.

I just do not know how we will cope, my OH is looking for work and has considered going self employed but I just wondered if the 153 in tax credits based on the info ive given sounds about right?! i used another website and it said i was entitled to £53 per wk not £153 per month. Im so confused and now getting extremely stressed about our money situation and the baby isnt even here yet :(

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated....

Thank you
