myself and my husband are a couple of weeks away from becoming first time parents and are still not sure about our name choice if its a girl

we are thinking Madeline Alice or Alice Madeline our surname is May?

one concern is what Madeline could be shortened to we are not too keen on Maddie are there other names it could be shortened to ?

all opinions really welcome

I prefer Alice Madeline as I don't liek the nn Maddie either, not sure what else you could shorten it to.
x

I like both but lean towards Madeline Alice.

Maybe Madelynn and you can call her Lynn for short, if you are worried about Maddy.

Madeline Alice, obviously im a little biase as Madeleine is my daughters name :flower:, but I actually like the nn Maddie . Ive heard Eleine/Eleina and Leiny as nn also . Like pp said tho, if you used the Madelynn spelling you could have Lynn as a nn. Or you could just keep correcting people and make them use her proper name :winkwink:.xx

I love the name Alice. I think Alice Madeleine May flows better than Madeleine Alice May. Both are nice though. Great choices!

I like Alice as a 1st name :) its beautiful

When i was pregnant we chose Olivia and my family were calling her 'wee livvy' or 'wee olly'....i hated it! iv told them all that it will not be shortened!!

Dont worry about ppl shortening Madeline if you like the name go for it :)

I like Alice best as a first name, it flows better with your other names :)

Maddie May sounds like a Rod Stuart song so I would certainly avoid it lol xx

I prefer Madeline over Alice, personally... but also not fond of Maddie as a nn.

I agree with OP's -- Madelynn (nn. Lynn) or just correct people to use her full name...

Adeline / Addison are similar names -- maybe you prefer the nn. Addy??

I prefer Madeline Alice but agree with you on disliking the nickname Maddie. If you keep saying Madeline though people will get it. I watched a little girl named Victoria in the past and her name was Victoria not Tori not Vicky Victoria and everyone knew it because her mom would just correct people if they shortened it.
