My baby is almost 3 weeks old and we have been combining formula and breastfeeding for the majority of the time after exclusive bf didn't work for us. Anyway at the moment i'm using SMA milk but the last few days it really hasn't agreed with her. She gets really bad wind and holds on to it, I feel so bad as she seems so uncomfortable. I bf her mainly in the evening and at night but the majority of her feeds are formula, I wish I could bf her more as she is no where near as bad after these feeds but it just isn't possible. So I am thinking about changing to either Aptamil easy digest or cow and gate comfort milk but not sure which. I don't think the bottles are the problem, we have anti colic ones and she is fine when I express into these bottles. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I just want to do the best for my baby. Thanks in advance =D

Aptamil worked for us, good luck hun. xx

Haha! I could have written this post! Am in the exact seem situation as you, just 1 week on! :-)

Looking forward to answers xx

Thanks I'm switching to aptamil today fingers crossed it helps, she's been up all night with a bad tummy =[ so anything that might help is worth a go x

I also combine bf and use aptamil formula. I bf mostly during the day and may give her the occasional bottle, and before she goes down at night she will have another bottle. I do bf when she wakes at 5.am for convenience!
The reason I only partially bf is because halfway through a feed my lo becomes agitated and finds it hard to re-latch, even after a good burp. I feel more comforted when she has the odd bottle knowing she is satisfied but i'm finding it hard to do this exclusivly as I do enjoy the closeness of bf, but never have the time to express.
Have you thought about expressing your milk more to up your production?

Yeah I'll give it a go, we got off to a tricky start in hospital when she just wouldn't latch on so they put us onto formula so she was getting something, we finally mastered it a few days later after my midwife gave me a shield to help out. We are now able to do it without the shield but I think my milk supply took a pretty big hit, will try expressing a bit more and see if I can get her onto a bit more breastmilk. Just hate seeing her so uncomfortable.

Aptamil is supposed to be the closest to breast milk, you might find just the normal formula is ok rather than the easy digest, alot of people have problems with SMA. :flower:

Aptamil was great for us. I'd try another brand of first milk before going onto comfort as as the previous poster says I've read lots of people have problems with wind/discomfort with SMA.

We had LO on SMA at first and she had awful colic & wind. We switched her to Cow & Gate comfort and she is totally diffenent, no problems at all!

My lo one is on Sma gold and for us it's always been brilliant xx
