has anyone got any tips on how to get my lil man to go to sleep on his own. he is over 2 months now and i am still rocking him to sleep in his bouncer. i have been told by some other mums not to let him cry if i put him in his cot, others have said to let him cry and check on him every 20 mins to make sure he is ok. i really dont know what to do????????????????

have you got a bed time routine.. what has worked for me is bath, then I take her to bedroom, turn off lights so its quite dark as I have blackout curtains and put a night light on. then i have lullabies on and i feed her. then she gets drowzy and I rock her till she is nearly asleep but not quite and then i put her in her cot. I keep my hand on her chest for a minute and slowly and quietly leave the room. she also has a dummy which helps soothe her alot... the key is to put them down half asleep. does he sleep in his bouncer? does he take a dummy?

personally i would not do the cry it out yet.. i would wait till after 4 months at least as he is too little for that I think.. i would rather go in and reassure him when he wakes...until he falls asleep..

2 months is still a little young to be letting him cry it out.
Last few nights what iv been doing with Brian and so far its worked is he has his last full feed about 6/7pm (depends how his feeds have worked that day) and then once hes wound down and youv done the evening routines of bath, pj's I put him in his cot and give him another 3oz while hes laying in his cot at about 8/830pm and he uses it to comfert suck and drops off that way, once hes asleep I quickly swap his bottle for his dummy and leg it :)
Like I said its worked the last couple of nights and he normal goes to bed 8/830 has a dream feed about midnight and stays asleep till about 7am (he often whimpers in his sleep from 4am and keeps me awake but at least he stays asleep during it)
Last night he decided I was slow with his dream feed and woke up at midnight wanting to play but he was happy and chattered himself back to sleep within minutes, He doesnt normaly wake during the night.

Did u try to pat his stomach or hair & talk softly to him when he's in his cot? Or play his cot mobile to calm him down. Leaving him to cry at this young age is not advisable. I think controlled crying should not be done before 6 mnths. Or just put him in ur bed & lie down beside him & talk to him or give him a cuddle until he settles, then u can move him to his cot. Then u can slowly stop the cuddling/ patting.

A bedtime routine is also a good way to help him self settle. Bath, massage, story, etc.

What about putting LO to sleep on their side in cot/moses basket? This is the only way Alex sleeps. We have a side sleep positioner to stop him rolling over. x

I cant remember when I started to get lo into a routine but when I did, I bath her, massage her and give her her last bottle then take her into my room with the light out but the hall light on, put her down when she was either sleepy or still awake. I got one of then music light shows that project onto the roof and played that for her. When I first started doing it though I would wait outside the room and when she cried I would go back put my hand on her tummy to let her know that i was was there and put in her dummy. It took a few time but she went off in the end. It did take a few nights to get her used to it and was a bit of a battle but it worked in the end. I do the same now apart from she is asleep when the music light show finishes (which is on for 10mins) She also self settle durring the day as well, I have no set nap time she just falls asleep when she wants to.
