Hello ladies,

im getting a little confused about hospital bags.

Should you just take YOUR hospital bag with dressing gown etc in it and then get OH to replace that bag with your afterbirth bag and LO's bag???

And also, when did you all start to get your things together for your bags?

Personally I am packing everything I need for before and after birth in one bag, then baby's bag will be separate. My husband isn't going to want to leave our side to go and change anything or fetch a bag, so we might as well have it all to hand right away.

I am 27+2 and am going shopping for an 'after birth nighty' this week :)

I packed my bag at about 36 weeks and have one for all my stuff and using the changing bag for all baby's stuff. Having said that I have added a few bits since then and now considering repacking it into a 'labour bag' and seperate 'post-labour' bag which could stay in the car until I need it.

thats what i thought, because my dressing will mean needing a huge labour bag.

Might be able to get away with just one bag and then LO's changing bag i guess.

But should i not be thinking about it for about another month yet?

I'm packing and bringing everything I need as if I have a straight forward birth I can ae discharged after 6 hours.

If its complicated I'll be sending babies bag back home and OH will bring it when we are discharged.

I'm packing my bag after my growth scan tomorrow so I have some idea of what size clothes I need for LO.

I've got a labour bag, and a post-labour bag. It turned out my changing bag wasn't big enough for all of baby's things and there wasn't enough room in mine for them either!!

So I have two slightly bigger bags - my labour bag has one change of clothes for baby, nappies, blankets etc and what I need for labour and just after (clean PJ's/dressing gown/shower gel/shampoo/towels etc) and the post-labour bag with the rest of mine and baby's stuff can stay in the car for hubby to bring in for when I go onto the ward.

Edit: Oh, and I had my bags packed by 34 weeks - one of my friends went into labour at 34 weeks and she went in with a load of plastic bags with random things stuffed in them!! Her husband also ended up stopping at an all night garage so they could buy a toothbrush for her! So she nagged me until I got my bags sorted.

Just to make out easier for me to find things as I need them (and because I doing have one bag big enough) I have a veggie birth, after birth, and baby bag.I am wondering now though if it would be a good idea to keep them in the car incase we get caught short?

I haven't started packing yet so I have no idea if this is going to work out but my plan is,

Hand luggage size bag for me, only having a thin dressing gown and nighties, everyone says wards are so hot anyway. Hopefully they won't take up too much space.
Then changing bag for baby things.

I also want to take a little cool bag with an ice block and foody things in it.

I have started to buy a thing a week when I go shopping, pads, nappies, wipes etc. Not started packing yet but I want to have it done by 35 weeks because I am going away for the weekend the weekend after that and I definitely want to take the bag with me.

As advised at our antenatal classes, I have exactly the same as Niccal planned. X

i dont know why but i feel SO unorganized with this!!!

I am packing tomorrow as it is around 6 weeks before I am due. x x

I have everything in one big bag. Packed and readyt by the door at 37 weeks

I have a large sized sports type bag which has all my stuff for during and after labour plus 3 vests and sleepsuits for baby (in different sizes and one GN just in case the scan was wrong) and a couple of nappies. We're using cloth nappies so the changing bag is packed with nappies and another small bag (like a bowling bag) has more clothes, hats etc for baby. The nappy and baby bags will stay in the car until we need them after birth.

so i think my plan is to have....

one big bag for labour + post labour ( this will have all my stuf in it like dressing gown, cream, ipod, clean clothes etc)

then LO's changing bag ( im just going to follow B&B's guidlines as to what goes in here lol )

So when we go to the hosp ill take both bags but leave LO's in the car with the car seat.

Well i feel alot more organized now! lol

Im just struggling to find a nice bag thats big enough for all my stuff!

I've packed 10 nappies - which should do for an overnight stay! Then I guess OH can bring in some more from home if we need to stay for more than one night.... HTH xxx

thankyou xxx
im sorting some of her things out for hospital and im panicking so much! lol

ive packed like 1 extra of everything...

whats everyone doing about sizes?? Ive only got a few NB things ( a few vests and her going home sleepsuit)

I dont want her to look tiny in massive 0-3 sleepsuits but this size seems more practical...

unless i just buy a few NB sleepsuits for hospital

im just going to do the same this time as i did when i had my other 2 children - pack everything into one bag and then when we are in the hospital you will have the babies 'cot' which has a small unit/cupboard underneath for you to put babies things in, so i will unpack babies things into that as it then get tranfered to the ward with you after baby is born (obviously lol) i found it easier to just reach into that than having to search in my bags for things when i needed them for baby, so thats what i'll do this time, and leave my things in my bag. Then take a plactic bag to put any dirty things in to take home or to give to husband to take home.
I found this wayy the easiest as i was only carrying/having to worry about one bag to take with us and then things can be sored out once in hospital. It also gives you something/husband something to do in the early stages in between contractions

I will start packing my bags soon and i will bring 2 bags. 1 for me and 1 for baby. For me it will be a hand luggage sized suitcase and lo's change bag for baby.

I will be packing 2 nighties (1 for labour, 1 for after) lots of maternity pads and breast pads, lots of black undies, socks, and a change of clothes. Shampoo & conditioner, towel and hand sanitiser gel. It will be hot in the ward so i'm not going to bring in a night gown but maybe a jumper if i need it. Also a bin bag to put in dirty clothes.

For baby i will bring about 4 sleepsuits and bodysuits in NB & 0-3 because don't know how big baby will be, although DS was a 10lb'er and didn't fit in NB. I will bring both sizes just in case. A small pack of nappies, cotton wool (hospitals don't like you using wipes) and the going home outfit. Also some blankets and 1 or 2 hats.

Also, some hospitals don't provide formula milk or bottles (if you plan on FF) but best check this with your midwife first. I plan on trying to BF but will bring formula just in case because i didn't have an easy time trying to get my DS to BF.

HTH :flower:
