Alright,

So my baby girl is 3 weeks tomorrow

I had her on enfamil a+ thats what the hospital gave us to use when we were there for a couple days when she was born, i noticed she was gassy and etc so i talked to my dr about switching and etc and he reccomended good start omega 3 and 6 this seemed to work out good, we've been on the switch for about a week now...

For some reason when my baby girl needs to poop she strains so hard and turns red and i'll smell poop so i go to change her and shes pushing so hard to poop and grunting her poop isnt hard its either the normal or its a bit sticky like...

do you think this is the formula, she poops about once a day just seems to uncomfortable when she is pooping not sure if thats normal... im a first time mom so i find a lot of things are confusing!

I've tried gripe water and ovol drops nothing seems to comfort her... im really lost on what to do

my dr told me changing there formula's often can be really harsh on there tummys and i dont want to make matters worse either..

I just want my baby in some comfort..

She also grunts and strains pretty near all day, she does it in her sleep too *doesnt seem to bug her in her sleep* but some times in the night she wakes up and it is bugging her because she isnt going back to sleep

I hope one of you lovely girls have some advice for me!

She doesnt cry either, shes not a huge "cry baby" she more whines and etc when she wants something... i've honestly never heard her cry for more then like 2 mins straight.

It could be the formula, or it could just be her age. I think a lot of babies find pooping difficult and seem to strain as they aren't aware of which muscles to use. This was a phase my baby went through at around that age but he was certainly not constipated. I used to try to help him with a little baby massage. Honestly though I think some degree of digestive discomfort is normal in most babies. I could be wrong though!

I think your right tho you make complete sense.. i might wait it out .. i mean shes pooping so its not like she cant poop.. she's just straining , but shes prob only figuring out her little body!

Sometimes my LO strains when she poops. She went 48 hours without having a poop a couple days ago and then the next day she had like 4 poops in one day and each time she'd get this look on her face & her legs would go straight like she was straining. I think so long as her poops aren't rock hard/pellet-like, then you'll be okay =)

I agree with the PP- pooing is a big effort when they are so little. If there is crying when she does it, or if she draws up her legs when crying there might be an issue. If the poo starts to look like rabbit pellets then she is probably constipated. Look up colic massage on you tube- you might be able to help things along by bicycling her legs and giving her the colic massage. And at worst its a excuse to touch your baby.
