Help?

Hey girls,

I was wondering whether any of you have experience from "contact families" (not sure what they are called in the UK, if they even exist, am from Sweden and that's what they're called there) - help for single parents who have no family to help them? System back home is a family who volunteer one weekend of every month and look after your LO in their home so that the parent can get some own time - arranged by Social Services.

Thing is, I am totally alone with my LO, work full-time and have NO family here to take some of the workload off me, they're all back in Sweden, FOB's family have all disowned LO and nobody on that side has been in ANY contact although they live here. So I really have noone here.. no friends with babies (and with no experience), nothing. I'm desperate to have just ONE night to myself, to just read a book, have a bath.. you know. It would be a tremendous help to have a volunteering family with own kids who could take Ethan every now and again, for my sanity, and just to feel I have someone you know.

You might think I'm a right whinge but it's so difficult cause no matter what, I can NEVER have any help from my family as nobody is here. Been a single parent since April

Would anyone of you know if there is such an option here in the UK?

hey hun. i know how you feel, i have no help whatsoever. and it really brings you down. Ive never heard of this kind of service in the UK however. Maybe you could go to mum and baby/toddler groups to meet new people. From there maybe you can create friendships and be able to trust with a babysitter for the evening. sorry im not much help*hugs*

in my area we have what are called surestart centers and surestart helpers that will come into ur home and help with house work or look after lo in your home for an hour or too so you can have sometime to ur self to do house work or just have a bath and relax in peace, maybe you could search online to see if theres any of them or simlar type of things in your area xXx
