Hiya guys just wondering if any of you could give me some advice or your opinion please, basically me and my partner have been trying to conceive our first child for a little over a year now. We suffered a miscarriage the 29th January I went to my doctors Tuesday for actually something else but I ended up mentioning about fertility as I've seen a lot of posts on here about fertility medication the one that stood out was clomid so I mentioned it to my doctor and I'm actually seeing a gyno in August as obviously he couldn't prescribe it to me so he booked me in to the gyno to check everything aswell as clomid. I was actually wondering if any of you could give me some advice or your opinion of something else could be wrong with me a "what if" really I don't mind what you say would just give me something so I could prepare myself for as a just in case I would really appreciate it like I said I really really don't mind what you say so you haven't got to be careful about what you say I would just like something to prepare myself so I'm not incredibly nervous nearer the time :):):):):) thanks in advance xxx

Have you had any genetic testing done? I had a miscarriage in March this year, was due to have genetic testing (blood draw, etc of both me and my husband) on June 16th but found out on June 2nd we're pregnant again so that appointment has been canceled. That may be something only an OB can do (the genetic testing) but i know that there ARE tests they can do to see if there are any underlying medical reasons for fertility problems other than just slinging you on some medication and hoping for the best =)

Best of luck in your journey!!!! Here's hoping you get the surprise you're hoping for before your August appointment!!

I haven't had any testing done yet as I know you normally have to wait a year I think lol. The one thing I know is that my mom, nan etc haven't suffered any fertility problems except my step mom suffered 2 miscarriages and my partners mom had suffered one miscarriage and his sister have had some problems after she had her first child, do you think this could be genetic? Sorry if that doesn't make sense lol.
But you saying your story would give me a lot of hope if it is that so thank you :)
Me and my partner said that exact thing that we are going to try and try and try before august and hope that appointment will have to be cancelled lol thank you for replying :):):) xxx

If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I'm 34 so because of my age my OB didn't want to wait at all after the loss to do the testing. If you're over 30 your OB may be more willing to do the testing (at least that's how it is in the US...not sure where you live).

It's very possible that it could be genetic, it could also just be unfortunate coincidence. There are a few women in my extended family on my father's side who have struggled with fertility but no one in my immediate family so not sure what any of that means lol I have no clue how genetics plays into fertility.....I do know that my cousin who is finally pregnant with twins via IVF after years of trying and a mc, has a sister who has 5 children and no mc's......so beats me!!! LoL

Lol it's all confusing isn't it :):) and I'm 21 that's what I'm worrying about as I'm quite young and I live in Wolverhampton in west midlands xxx

ah okay so you've got plenty of time ahead of you before you start CONSTANTLY hearing from Dr's about your age being a factor haha!

LOL I have heard that they love keep reminding people of their age! LOL xx

yeah I had one doctor actually ask me, "Why did you wait so long to start trying for babies?!?!" And I looked at her *pissed* and said, well I wasn't really up for having a baby as a single woman so I waited until I met my husband and married him before trying for our first....*had just gotten married 4 months prior to that conversation!

First off, I'm sorry about your loss.
Without going to the doctor it's impossible to tell what's not working in your favor, but I've been on these boards for a while and can let you know what I've seen other people do to GET pregnant....
1. Some of the girls use soy instead of clomid. Just search for 'soy' and 'ttc' on this board and you should get some helpful suggestions. I know there's a super long thread someplace.
2. You have to use a sperm friendly lube. One of the major brands in North America is preseed. I have no idea if that's available there or not. I'd check amazon.
3. Without knowing your OHs sperm count, you might want to buy some instead cups. They're a disposable menstrual cup but there are a couple ways to use them when ttc. You can have OH 'deposit' in them and then slide it up inside, or you can just dtd and then slide one in yourself before you stand up. You can leave them in for 12 hours and it keeps everything right up near your cervix.
4. Since you don't know if it's you or OH, you might want to just have sex every other day so his sperm has a chance to build back up.
5. If you've never used OPKs to track your ovulation, pick some up off the internet - they're fairly inexpensive when you buy them that way. If you don't know exactly when you ovulate right now it's possible that you're just missing the egg.... I have an 11 day lp (time from when I ovulate to AF) so if DH and I were dtd 14 days before AF and then stopping it would have been very hard for me to get pregnant. If your lp is less than 10-11 days that could also be making it difficult for you to get pregnant. I've seen many people suggest that taking B6 can lengthen the LP if that's the issue.

I think that's about all I know.

Good luck!

I'm not sure the dr will do much for the time being, at your age they usually want you to try for 18 months before doing anything. I agree with all the above from pp. If you are not ovulating when you think you are its going to make it harder to catch that egg. I recommend bbt charting although it takes dedication but can give a great overview of your cycle. Menstrual cups and preseed/conceive plus are great and I'0d add in some robitussen to loosen cervical mucous and let the preseed do its thing. Good luck hun, hope to see you anniuncing your bfp very soon. xx

You could ask them to check your thyroid levels too. If it took a long time to get pregnant and then you miscarried it, an under/over active thyroid may be part of the reason. As for genetic testing, it's possible to have something that's not known or just have a random mutation. you don't necessarily need to have a family history for something to sneak in. But as a previous poster said, it may not be something your doctor will look into right now being as you are fairly young. I also want to caution you that most doctors won't start doing too much fertility testing unless you've been ttc 12-18 months without a positive pregnancy test or you've had 3 consecutive miscarriages with the same partner. To better help your doctor understand what may be going on, I'd for sure start using opks and/or temping and chart your cycle til your appt. That way you can show your doctor what exactly is going on during your cycles and it may give them a clue as to what's happening or what's not happening. Good luck!
