Hi ladies, popping in from 3rd tri and would really appreciate any advice/experiences from those who've had a propess induction.

I am due with my first on Tuesday 5th July (gestational diabetes) and will be induced at 8pm with a propess induction. I'm feeling very nervous about the whole process and would just like to hear any experiences or advice any of you might have.

Thank you :flower:

Hi!
Your situation is a lot like mine was. I had gestational diabetes and had to be induced with propess a week before my baby was due (though I was induced due to high BP).

I was induced around 12pm on the Monday and didn't feel anything until around 11pm and that's when I started having niggly contractions. Was completely bearable until 9am the following day (Tues). Being induced can be more painful but it's only because you don't always get a break in between contractions. Breathing and focussing on my baby coming REALLY helped me immensely (and I'm such a wimp when it comes to pain!) I was examined around 11.30am and was 1cm dilated - I was devastated even though i'd only been in full labour a couple of hours lol, but half an hour later my waters popped and almost immediately I felt the urge to push. I begged to be examined again and even the midwife was surprised to find I had dialted to 6cms in about half an hour! That's how quick it was!

I was whisked to the delivery suite where I hardly felt any pain with the contractions, just an urge to push. The pushing took an hour because my cervix didn't fully dilate (only 9.5cms) so I had to push slowly not to to any damage to myself. My daughter was born at 1.20pm so all in all a 4 hour 20min labour which was bliss compared to my first 36 hour nightmare labour!

If you want to ask any more questions hun, feel free and the best of luck with your labour - just think of that beautiful baby that will be coming to you soon, there really is no other feeling like it x

Thankyou so much, this really has helped me calm down a bit- heard alot of induction "horror stories" and made myself a bit paranoid, I had an internal last week and was told that despite cervix not thinning much, I'm 1cm dilated already, so fingers crossed, I'm also a wuss with pain so that's another reason I've been worried.

Thankyou again, :hugs: you've been so pleasant and helpful! If I think of anything I will message you :) xxx

i had propess and i had a great labour and delivery took a while to kick in for me but when i was in active labour it was soooo fast! i had just gas ans air too x

aww...no problems hun glad to be of help.

I heard a lot of horror stories too and was petrified! Honestly it wasn't as bad as my first birth (natural) and would be very happy to have the induction birth again if I had the choice as it wasn't as long.

Only managed on gas and air here too x

I've had 2 inductions (one at 37 weeks because baby was too big and I had a collapsed pelvis) and one at 39 weeks because baby growth had slowed down since 32weeks. Both were fine, no more painful than my 3 natural births - in fact my 3rd (natural) was probably the most painful. I actually preferred the inductions, knowing exactly when baby was coming. I never had pain relief of any kind for any of my births and to be honest I probably enjoyed the induction births as there was no rush or pressure. xxx

Hi love, i also had GD and was induced at 39+1.

I went in around 9am, was taken to the antenatal ward, was given the propess at 12 lunch time. It was uncomfortable, i was nervous though so i think thats why it was probably abit sore.
O/h went home 8pm that night, around 2am i was having mild pains, anyway i didn't think anything of it. I got up at 5am for a shower, then had a 'show' around 6am. Got emotional lol and a lady on the same ward gave me a cuddle and told me it'd be okay! Ahh it was :) Midwife came, offered paracetamol as i was getting pains then, i declined as paracetamol never work for me anyway!
9:25am i put on my little TV, Jeremy Kyle, i was having pains every 5 minutes.
11:30am, pains every 3 minutes!
2pm, midwife FINALLY came round, plonker! Pains were unbearable, i was 4cm dilated. No break between contractions.
3pm taken to delivery suite.
4pm 4cm dilated (no change!) Was put on Syntocinon drip to speed things up. asked for epidural, got one, FANTASTIC. (fit anaesthaetist might i add) :) Found out at this point LO was back to back position, hence the violent pain lol.

6pm - 7cm.
9pm - They broke my waters as still at 7cm
12 Midnight - 8cm
3am - started to push
3:45am LO was born, 8lb 6oz at 39+3

His sugars were low so we had to stay in for 24hours, however he was fine.

Good luck, you'll be fine! xx

hey :) hope this will help u

at the end of my pregnancy i had low fluid round baby and had 2 go in 2 be induced to i was gutted i was soo set on the midwife unit and a water birth i was freaking out cause i though i cant do this i need my water birth i got way 2 in 2 water birth thing.
my labour wasnt as bad as i though it would be i was 7hrs (1st baby) 4cm b4 i relised i was in labour and took down 2 delivery. i said b4 all thro my pregnancy that my idea of hell would b getting induced being strapped 2 monitors and having my legs in stirrups well guess what lol yeah all 3 happend but i would not have changed 1 thing about the birth gas n air and some jag in my thigh. at the end of it all i had my healthy baby and that was the most important thing 2 me as it is 2 all mums
its weird u jst kinda go in2 autopoilot. the thing that pissed me off most is i soooo wanted a nice long drink of cold water with ice cubes and the midwife came back with a bloody wee spit of water (she couldnt give 2 much incase a had 2 go 4 a c section) at the time i was not happy but that tea toast hot bath then the wheelchair trip up 2 the ward with my new wee baby in my arms nothing will ever beat that feeling i wish i could go back and re live that :))

best of luck hun u will need 2 let us all no how u get on xx

you're all fantastic, and thankyou for taking the time to answer :) I will keep you all updated, you've all really played a part in making me feel better about the whole process, so I can't thank each of you enough. :hugs: xx

is that like a pessary ? If so i was induced at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure
got it in around 9.30 pm. It wasnt too bad actually! not as bad as i was thinking it would be! within an hour it had started to kick in and i was getting pains, not too bad but enough to notice midwife came in felt my belly and confirmed it was contractions, soon after this i had a show, at 12 i got a bath to releive the pain it worked well, tried to sleep but pain was getting worse, at 3am i tried to have another bath but had to get out, got waters broken around 4 i was 4-5cm and i then got my diamorphine and gas and air. By 7.30 i was fully dilated. LO arrived at 9am so around 12 hours after induction!

I found the whole thing fine tbh! i liked how i was in the hospital from sqaure 1, i felt more at ease! my contractions were bad but that was due to LO being back to back also the reason it ended in forceps :(
