hi! im just coming in with a question about VBAC VS elective csection (i was reccomended by someone on my thread who said you were all lovely!) :flower:

just a bit of advice needed!

I had a emergency c section with toby, after 70ish hours labour and only getting to 7cm.

anyway we are planning on starting ttc in sept which im looking forward to but there is a bit of worry about the birth.
i was kinda wanting a VBAC but the more i think about it the more im thinking elcs!
i dont want to go through the same thing as last time.

Has anyone got any positive VBAC that could reassure me?

im worrying and im not even pregnant yet lol! x

Hiya, welcome :)

I tried clicking the link but it won't let me view it?

I decided to plan a VBAC, which could happen any day now, can't wait! :happydance:

i forgot i put it in girly sanctuary! doh!! iv written it again. good luck with your VBAC XX

I VBAC'd 5 weeks ago, planned HBAC but we transferred...still got my VBAC with only GnA and no stitches w00p.

Planning an HBAC was the best decision I ever made.

The minute I came out of theatre last time I knew I would never willingly go back (EMCS after long labour and slow progress -got to over 9cm anterior lip left, not allowed to try to push).

When I looked into VBAC all the recommendations left me cold - come to ward early in labour, constant electronic monitoring, cannula fitted...all the thing I didn't want, all the things that would restrict me and are proven to increase the need for further meddling without improving outcome.

YOu are as first time Mum around 75-80% likely to achieve a vaginal birth, the same as a VBAC so why are we subjected to these extra interventions that will hinder our progress through labour? Fucking policy thats why, we have a TINY extra risk of Uterine Rupture UR) and I mean tiny risk less than 1% and it's hospitals trying to cover their asses. Never mind our need to VBAC which is better all around for us and the baby.

This time I laboured at home, I was relaxed and happy sent hubby out to watch footie, cooked a meal for me and mum put my toddler to bed, watched some telly, did a tesco online shop - what would i have been doing otherwise? In a bleak noisy brightly lit hospital room strapped to a monitor no thanks! By the time I got the MW to me (only after Mum told me to call her LOL) I was 7/8cm and doing great! I transferred at 10cm, with no urge to push as baby had turned posterior but mostly because they were concerned about blood loss (a good enough reason to transfer) I went on to birth my baby in hospital but I did it under my own steam and it was great!! it was effing hard work but it was great!!

Whether you VBAC in hospital or home it will be amazing, do your research and make it yours hun, remember no 2 pregnancies are alike and no 2 labours will be either, 2nd time around it'll more likely be quicker and more successful you got to 7cm last time thats nearly there its not 'only' 7cm its 7cm dammit you did that all by yourself as baby wasn't helping, thats hard work.

Give me a few mins and I'll hit you up with some good references/links

I'm planning a home VBAC sometime soon! So I will let you know how I get on, but I totally agree with what Chuck has said

You should maybe also read some books, like Marie Mongan's Hypnobirthing book, which really helped me to have faith in my body. And also Ina May Gaskin's Guide to Childbirth, which is an amazingly inspiring read (some of it is a little 'far out', but there are some great VBAC birth stories and advice for VBAC mums). I'm sure other people will recommend some more :D

Forgot to say that there was a really good VBAC thread on here not so long ago - you should have a look- lots of good advice :D

Just remember whether you choose to VBAC, HBAC or ELCS make it YOURS.

You have the right to say no to anything you do not want or are uncertain about. There is no 'being allowed to' 'having to do' anything.

If you go to hospital you do not have to have the monitoring or cannula, if yu stay at home you can do what ever the hell you like. If you go for ELCS you can do it your way you have many rights to ask for things to be done how you want...also have a google of 'gentle' or 'natural' cesarean.

Wow thankyou will definately look inti those sites tomorrow!

Xxxx

How do you know you were in labor for 70ish hours?

Not trying to be rude at all or say you're lying. Many Doctors don't tell women what constitutes real labor and what is pre-labor. You may have been in prodomal labor, which is common, I was for 8 days. Or you could have been experiencing a lot of braxton hicks that you thought were labor contractions and that your Doctors went along with. Many possabilities there. It is unlikely that you were in active labor for 70ish hours, but Doctors don't like to let women know what is really going on. Also, getting truly stalled out is not common. Many women stop dialating for awhile to take a break, or because they're body has gotten shy from people coming into the room, etc. But with alone time and rest it is common to start back up again.

I would try a VBAC if I were in your shoes and to let yourself get the rest and privacy your body needs. You'd be suprised at how well your labor can go or re-start with those two little things :)

I wish you all the best in your future pregnancies!

No probs I know it is a bit of info overload but take your time.

You deserve to get the birth you want no matter what that choice is.

Good luck on whatever you decide, you've got plenty of time, and you might find one day you are totally going to have an ELCS then next day a VBAC! It's been quite a journey for me, and I started my preparing before I fell pregnant too.

lots of :dust: to you!
