Hey girls,
Just thought id vent my confusion on my last midwife app on thursday!

So i went along for my 15/16 week check up with the midwife took my urine sample all fine, then went on to take my blood pressure and apparently it was sky high at 164 over something :( Lots of tears the midwife kinda put me in panic stations she was fonin this one and that one then she said i may have to go to the hospital and have hourly checks now by this time i was freaking out, anyways she went on to listen to the babys heartbeat and feel my belly heartbeat was amazing found it straight away and was thumping away for me to record so baby daddy could hear it which made me even more emotional!!

She then went back to try taking my blood pressure again and it was still 15o something :( so i had to go to the local hospital to see a doctor and now ive gotta take aspirin everyday. .

I just wanted to vent to you all and wondered if anyone else has had high blood pressure?? and weather ther midwife went into a bit of a panic i mean she was talking about signing me off work for a month and stuff like that?!

Anyways any similar stories would be gratefully recieved :)

I had high BP in my first pg and I think it is common.. My MW said that sometimes you have high bp with your first as your body is in a bit of a tiz as its neva been pg before and then by the time you get pg again it remembers how to regulate itself and behave! Dunno if I believe this or not... However my second my BP was always fine...

I hope she was just in a tizz and didn't over scare you too much.. its awful but high BP can be very bad for you and baby so best to get it checked out, rather than waiting to see what happens.. I was actually hospitalised due to high BP and induced early with my first son so it can sometimes be abit scary esp when they are flapping! Sometimes it does just depend on the day and what you have been doing.....

At my 8 week booking in appointment this happened to me...my midwife freaked out as my bp was 140/90 and automatically started talking medications and booked me for consultant care! :-( It freaked me out so much, as I have never had blood pressure problems before....anyway, everytime after my bp has been fine at a steady 112/70 so it was obviously a one off, I hope. But she has scared me so much that I hate having it taken now at appointments incase it has gone up again and I just stress when she goes to check me. But I have come to realise that my midwife over reacts about everything!

I have high blood pressure. Found out at my 16 week appointment and the midwife did the same thing, freaked out and sent me to the hospital!

I have had highblood pressure before and it seems to be manifesting itself in pregnancy. I have to take aspirin everyday aswell. I am at one of the best hospital's in the country St Mary's in Manchester and they are very good. Basically the top measurement relates to you and the bottom one to the baby. If the blood pressure goes over 150 at the top and over 100 at the bottom they will have to regulate it using medication. They have perfectly safe medications for blood pressure in pregnancy.

I have to go to the hospital every 2 weeks for my blood pressure to be checked and also a urine sample to check for protein (as this can indicate pre eclampsia)
I have a 25% increased risk of developing pre eclampsia as i have high blood pressure. At the moment mine is around 130/92 so isn't high enough for medication.

I also have my own monitor and i take my blood pressure every other day, i write them down so i can take them to the hospital. At the moment it isn't high enough to need medication. The specialist told me that she has lots of people with high blood pressure and on medication that get right up to their due date and deliver normally and have healthy babies.

Basically if the bottom one goes over 100 then medication is used to bring it down. I may need medication at some point in the pregnancy, they should just monitor you closely and get a machine to take it at home as this will relieve your anxiety.

Hope this helps
Jayne

Me too I was put on weekly appointments until it regulated, I was signed off work for 3 weeks (it would have been longer only I decided to go back off my own bat). I also get a blood pressure monitor I take my own bp every morning now so I know when it's good or bad.
It is serious so please listen to the advise of your midwife she is only doing what is best for you & your little one. :flower:

Thanks Girlies im glad im not the only one with high blood pressure!!
she took my bp twice and the first time it was 160 the second time it was 154 so both quite high!!
