Hi, was just wondering if anyone else has been through High Blood Pressure? Everytime I go to midwife she tells me its high, always has been a little higher than average so wasnt too concerned I feel fine in myself.

But today, she sent me straight to the hospital and said needs it confirmed. ON arrival they stuck me on monitor for baby as it was still high and the baby seems happy enough..But that didnt change the doctors mind. Now I'm having to go back tomorrow for a growth scan and take it from there they said HBP can cause growth problems, wonderful!! They dont think the pregnancy has brought on the HBP they think its something underlying before but pregnancy has just highlighted it.

I think when I got to hospital it was 160/94, but my pulse rate is like 94 and did hit somewhere around 115 something I think or higher. I keep telling them that its white coat syndrome as Im fine at home, but they wouldnt take no for answer.

I'm having to monitor BP now and count how many times baby moves etc. They put the fear of go into you and I feel so well!!! I just dont understand!!

Just wondered if anyone has had this and then its all calmed down again...I'm worried of getting admitted really early, some poor women got admitted whilst I was there and she was only 33wks and will be in there until week 38!!! I just couldnt handle that!! trust me!!:dohh:

Anyway thanks for listening, would love to hear your views...thanks xx

Hey, I have been in exactly the same situation - except mine was picked up at 25weeks. They terrified me talking about elective c-section at 25weeks and that baby MIGHT survive, but here I am at 32 weeks and still pregnant. Blood pressure has remained high but I have avoided medications etc. They are just being super cautious.

The concern with high BP in pregnancy is the placenta can be less efficient - hence the growth scans and you having to monitor babies movements. You must contact the ward if you notice that movments are reduced/non-existant.

If your BP consistantly is around 160/100 then they will prob start you on medications. On the up side I have been signed off work since 25 weeks and not going back until after my mat leave!! Hooray!

relaxation is well know to lower blood pressure if its anxiety and white coat syndrome!#

i did it twice a day through my pregnancy as my anxiety is bad and now my baby responds to it! x

Thanks Madge and Soph xx I've been giving the relaxation music ago this afternoon and managed to get it down to 140/86 and then put myself to bed for 1 hour and it went right down to 127/75 which I thought was great!! considering how high it hit today. My pulse rate has dropped from 90's to 77 with bed rest, so I'm hoping this will help improve things. I think I just got v stressed today with the upheaval of it all and was just expecting a normal midwife appointment. The Doctor put the fear of god into me, but hubby keeps saying they are just trying to be cautious!!

Its reassuring to hear you are so far in to pregnancy Madge considering they picked it up at 25wks. Well done hun!! You must be doing something right!!

I am going to give my diet a right good going over and stopping any salts and processed foods and things like that for a while to see if it helps...Also monitoring from home the BP so once I get the scan out the way, hoping that I can start to relax again and if they see a record of it go up when its time for my appointments hopefully they will start believing me its more of a white coat syndrome than a medical high blood pressure!!

Its taken a long time today to get it back down from such a stressful day ha ha..I guess if you get anxious in those situs there's nothing much you can do. Will keep up the relaxation etc.

Thanks ladies, glad to hear you are both well xx
