Hi ladies,I am TTC and already have high blood pressure(hbp) its to the max right now and am really concerned that if i do get PG will i be high risk, what can i expect, any one had it BEFORE getting PG?

I had high bp for about a year before getting pregnant. It was running so high that I ended up being up on Diovan to bring it down bc diet and exercise were not working. After being on the meds for about 8 months my doc decided to take me off bc my bp was staying low all the time.

I month later I became pregnant and I am now at 11 weeks. So far I have had no issues with my bp, I monitor it daily and it stays almost perfectly normal. My ob/gyn told me to watch it but that a symptom of pregnancy in the first tri is lowered bp. Hope this helps!

Hi I am currently 22 weeks pg and have high bp and gd. If you have high bp before you are pregnant you are at 50% greater risk of having pre eclampsia. And yes you will be considered high risk. My bps before getting pg was doing a lot better and I was coming off of meds by myself and had lost 40 lbs. I was only taking a pill for it every other day. When I found out I was pg I was terrified! They put me on Labetalol 100mg once daily and I havent had any high bps so far but I still have a high risk dr I have to see once a month to do sonogram and make sure all is ok with baby. I also had to see my ob every other week in the beginning until 20 weeks and now I have to see him every week til baby is born. This is to monitor bps so that if it starts giving any indication that it is rising they can up meds. If that dont help or its too severe they will have to put me on bed rest either in or out of hopsital. Then hopefully bps wont get worse but if so they have to take the baby early. They told me they will try to allow pregnancy to go to 34 weeks but only depends on bps. During labor having high bp also can cause alot of problems the pushing and stress can make bp so high that u can have a stoke or bleed in brain. I would really think about all this before hand and try getting bp under control with out meds before getting pg. I would talk to my dr about any and all concerns you have so he can best prepare you if you do decide to get pg while your bp is at the max. Mine was unexpected but I am just leaving my trust in God and in the drs to do the best they can to catch it and keep it under control. Good luck to you though whatever you decide.

I have high bp and did with my last pregnancy and they gave me the meds that are safe during pregnancy and I made it to 39 weeks no problem with him :) the meds do make you feel really tired and on top of pregnancy the tired made me not ever get things done as they should but its only about 8 months so I handled it best I could and am back on the meds this time and Im just taking it a day at a time I have noticed my house is already suffering since I just dont have the energy to get things done

Yes! Its scary, hey? I am about 16 weeks, and I started on Labetalol (2 x 100mg, twice a day) as my bp was steadily at 155/110 at my first checkups. I didn't know I had high bp as I wasn't regularily checked up with my family doctor. I actually had to visit the ER a few times with weird symptoms, like blue toes (gross), headaches, numbness, etc. Finally, when I knew I was pregnant, I got the blue toes and went in, and they treated me with medication.

I also had PIH with my first son, and he was induced at 38 weeks. MY second pregnancy was just fine (minus the surprise breech entry into the world my daughter made!), and then sometime after that, my bp crept up and up - I had no idea!

Now, I monitor my bp at home, and take the same doseage of Labetalol as initially prescribed. I am constantly exhausted, and it took me about three weeks to get used to the side effects of the medication - headaches, rashes, fatigue, dizziness, short of breath, nausea, etc. I get regular headaches, and if I have a hot bath, my bp goes REALLY low and I get wobbly. If I stand up too fast, sometimes I black out for just long enough to fall over. My OBGYN says this is just my body getting used to the new pressures, and the enlarged arteries.

At the end of the day, I am relaxed knowing my pressures are regulated, my baby is healthy, and I am on the fast track to helping myself get better with daily walks, swims, and a low sodium diet.

Good luck! 8)
