First tim I have posted here but am considered a high risk pregnancy, I have high blood pressure, a fast heart rate (over 110bpm) and raised ALT levels.

I am terrified my body won't cope with giving birth, I want a c section cuz I know my blood pressure and heart rate won't cope with a natural birth, but am worried about my blood pressure and heart rate with a c section as well.

I don't know what to do, am so scared that the birth will kill me.

Has anyone else had this and its been ok????

What is ALT? I've done plenty of research into maternal death rates as it is a phobia of mine too, I know ALL the numbers lol. Out of 700000 births a year (approx) only about 53-55 women die. Thats good odds for us! Even with HBP and HPR hospitals are so advanced. Especially if you go elective on the C-section, I know emergency ones tend to be more dangerous and even then, deaths are v. rare x

Sorry to butt-in, ALT are liver enzyme tests. How high are your numbers Becky? Over the last couple of weeks I have had elevated ALT - highest was 66, now down to 52. My hospital really don't seem worried - particularly as my AST levels are fine. I also had high blood pressure whenever it was taken at the hospital (it was always fine at home) and was put on the lowest dose of labetalol and its now fine at the hospital too (120/80 this morning). It also seems to have brought my pulse rate down into the 80s. Not once have my hospital mentioned c-section to me, they don't see any reason why I wouldn't be able to have a natural birth (although I will be induced at 39 weeks due to gestational diabetes). Try not to worry, I know its hard but you have to have faith in your healthcare team - they will get you through this and you'll have your lovely baby at the end of it. xxx

Becky - I've had similar symptoms with my daughter but i had a lot more wrong with me i was critically ill, i was that poorly through labour/birth that i was in intensive care for 5 days. They advised me to have an Epidural to keep everything at bay which i did and everything was stable for sometime. I ended up with an emergencey section but as i said i had a LOT wrong with me and my daughters heart rate dropped to 50bpm so they had to get her out.

I know its very easy to say but try not to worry about it. If the hospital feels you are unable to have a natural birth then they'll let you know.

Thankyou for your replys, my ALT levels were 79 then 53, then they said they were on the border of normal and high at my next blood test but they didn't tell me the numbers, but have to go back for more bloods next week to test them again, Am thinking of asking my doctor for blood pressure tablets to keep it more stable and to try and lower my pulse, cuz it really worrys me and anything that will help I'd rather take than not.
Am seeing my midwife on thursday so am going to speak to her about my options for giving birth.

They don't sound crazy high then hun. Good idea to ask about the BP medication - its just one less thing to worry about if you know what I mean? Definitely talk through your worries with the MW, that's what she's there for. Good luck! xxx

my BP was 200/100 when i was induced, i was given an IV administering labetalol and an epi (lowers bp)

you will be ok!

pm me if you want any advice x x

labetalol is the medication I'm on. The lowest dose has just taken the edge off my "whitecoat syndome" and made me feel more in control. Interesting about the epi. I'm being induced so not ruling one out and this is a positive for it. xxx
