high fsh ..is it true..* UPDATE 9/12/09*

Well! i had to go for some blood tests last week ready for the IVF and i sneakly ticked the FSH box as i was CD3..
Just got my results today........

its dropped by half to 6.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so shocked , i have made some changes but it would only have been about 10 days by the time i took the test. Have a look at my signature to see what i ahve been doing. Im really pleased but confused as to how quickly it has come down!

Hi Muncho, glad to read this, shows that fsh results are not the be all end all. Have you had your E2 test done? I have read that elevated estradiol levels can interfere with fsh levels and make it unreliable. So confusing.

I had my results yesterday, but don't feel like I know what is going on. The secretary was so confused, so in the end, she got the GP to call me, which is lovely, but he obviously didn't have tons of time, and I was at the gym in the changing room among many women, so not overly willing to discuss this matter! Anyway, he said that the results came back normal, great, then said fsh was 9.7, which I guess for my age (39) is expected, LH 3.1, ok, but then struggled to find my oestrogen levels. He then said 309, but I didn't feel positive that he knew what he was reading. Anyway, went and had a look on internet (ie, what we shouldn't do) and read that anything over 80 is high. After reading that high levels can lower fsh levels, I didn't feel so good....but then read that results can be in ml or pmol, and such a pmol level would be in the high end, but still normal. As he didn't state which on it was, I am none the wiser!

Oh well, can't be bothered to call again, it was clear they expected me to trust his judgment that levels were normal so I'll just wait until my appointment with the fertility specialist in February. Such a rollercoaster of emotions, but I remember that no matter what, miracles do happen and reading posts like yours glitter helps to think 'stuff the tests'!!!

Please dont give up hope. All it takes is one egg and one sperm. I have my fx for you hun. XXX

I had the same issue that FBbaby is talking about, and it shows how unreliable FSH really is. I had an FSH of 4.8 and an estradiol of 79, then an estradiol of 100 the next month. The doctor said that the estradiol falsely brings the FSH down so that I might actually have low ovarian reserve even though my FSH was good. Anyway, I now just ignore the whole FSH thing because the AMH test was normal and indicated pretty good reserve for my age. So, I guess what I'm saying is that FSH seems very tempermental and hard to measure whereas the AMH is maybe more reliable.
Muncho- you've said that AMH measures egg quality- I've heard that it measures reserve, but now I can't remember if that's true. Did your doctor tell you that it was quality? THis is all so confusing!

hi Brook

thanks for the info.
FHS measure the reserve and amh measures the quality. My amh was 4.4pmol which means low fertility :(
Im really confused now as well. i dont know what my E2 is, will have to check that next month

Hi,

I have had both FSH and AMH levels tested and looked into it in some depth... My consultant (who writes papers on infertility) has told me that both FSH and AMH look at egg quality AND reserve and that we aren't able to exactly determine either.

Thanks KEZ
its all so confusing, do you know why its fluctates apart from the e2 levels?

I have read that it can fluctuate at an early stage because your body might 'fight' more one cycle than the other. Unfortunately, it would appear the lower level is the accurate one.

Saying that, I am not overly convinced by these results. I have read quite a few cases of women with ridiculous fsh results, like 60, then coming up with a lower result and falling pg naturally.

Also, my E2 results don't really make sense to me. Even if results were in mol, they were still on the highish side. Yet that cycle, I didn't get a 'high' on my fertility monitor (the 'high' corresponding to rise in Oestrogen) until cd11, and only had one before my peak (LH rise). Surely if my oestrogen levels were that high at cd3, the monitor would have pick up on it and given me a high from the first day of testing at cd6.

I agree with Kez, even though these tests might be guides and might reflect how easy or not it is to get pregnant, it can't tell you that you have no chance.

right well im all geared up for my BFP this month since my reading was 6........

seeing the cons on monday so will tell u what he makes of it all

does anyone not think it could be acupuncture or wheatgrass??????
