Highlights and washing hair

Since getting my highlights Ive had nothing but problems finding a shampoo and conditioner that doesn't leave my hair like straw Can't brush my hair through without it hurting SERIOUS tangling situation going on! I even tried all in one elvive (sp?) and omg that was the worst I had to wash my hair in something else to be able to brush it!

Anyone any suggestions? Ive spent so much on shampoos its unreal and Ive bottles of it in a bag for my OHs Mum because I can't use it!

i would call your hairdresser to see what's recommended. they have really great products, although the price does reflect that too good luck hun

Only been to these people once and tbh never in the past have I had the same problem when getting my hair highlighted or permed.

Find it bizarre how all of a sudden my hair is a terrible straw like state on washing ....been the same for weeks now not just days

What about a conditioning hair mask for coloured hair or just one for dry hair?
i have a tresemme one for dry or brittle hair and works really well for my dry hair

When i had white blonde highlights my hair had to be dyed about 5 times to get the colour and it left it looking like straw.

I found McAdam stuff to be really good, think you can only get it from Tecos's though.

Also have you tried using the "colour" shampoo's?

Usually I pick something up at the salon when I'm leaving..


Dove shampoo & conditioners work well though. Leave the conditioner on for a minute or so while you wash your body or shave your legs or something and your hair should come out softer.

Also, they say use less shampoo (dries out your hair) and more conditioner..

Stay away from volumizing shampoos!

I reverse my conditioner/shampoo after I dye my hair. Use the conditioner first, leave it in for most of my shower and then take it out with the shampoo. That way the shampoo has a lot more to strip out than the natural oil in your hair

I get bleach highlights every 5 weeks and I use the red L'Oreal for coloured hair seperate shampoo and conditioner, I use a blob of conditioner about twice the size of the blob of shampoo i use and i slather it in my hair and then comb it through with my fingers. My hair is pretty soft.

One time i ran out of conditioner though and used a 2 in 1 and omg it was hell!

I'd strongly reccommend staying away from all in ones!! you should always use a seperate conditioner! My hair dresser recommends that aussie miricle conditioner if my hair needs a pick me up!! you have to leave it in for a min of 3 mins then wash out!!! its meant to be very good

have you tried panten pro v time renewal shampoo? They do really intensive conditioners now in little bottles. That may help?

Gosh Ive tried loads from pantene to shop own coloured hair dry hair ....

Ive used aussie before and din't find it that great and the price is shocking for an ok job

I know that all in ones are not always best but hey ho it was worth a try

Think I tried this one yer - drives me mad. Wondering if it was the type of hair dye she used or something. Never had the problem before.

It's not cheap (at all) but I can't beat Tigi products. I get them online as its nearly £10 a bottle from a salon. I use both Fashionista and Oatmeal & Honey ranges from the Catwalk stuff. It does last loads longer than shop bought stuff as well, especially the conditioner which I usually let down with water as its so intense.
Still my hair is not as nice as when I'm not pg tho, it's really lank and the colours don't look the same.

When I dyed my own hair blonde it went like straw and was almost impossible to get a brush through.

I bought some Dove 'For lightened or highlighted hair' shampoo and conditioner and found it brilliant for my hair. I could finally get a brush through it easy and it looked/felt alot nicer aswell

I still use it now even though I've gone back to brown hair because it makes my hair feel nice, lol.

clynol is very good, they have one for coloured hair, seperate shampoo and conditioner. Always leaves your hair lovely after its been couloured. I used to work in a hairdressers and have never used anything else.

avon, for coloured and damaged hair shampoo and conditioner its fab !! the bottles pink n white, ive used it for long time

Tre'semme for blonde hair is very good! I had problems with the last few inches of my hair since coming back from holidays. I started putting the conditioner on the dry ends and leaving it on for a few minutes and i tell you i was so pleased with the results. I'd tried so many different conditioners and nothing seemed to work, my hair felt dry and like straw even though it was wet.

I came across this by accident really. I don't have blonde hair, i have a lightish brown colour and i'd ran out of conditioner and just used my sisters shampoo and conditioner. Never looked back!

mines been bleached for over 11 years now and i would highly recommend clynol (especially the silver shampoo to remove any yellow tones) i also use tigi dumb blonde, and am always really happy with how soft it is also would recommend the l'oreal products in the salon. excellent too x
